Smart Choice Health Insurance Program December 2 in Harlan

News

November 15th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

ISU Extension and Outreach is providing a program called “Smart Choice” to help consumers understand health insurance concepts and terms, evaluate their own health insurance needs, examine insurance plans and select a plan that fits their needs and budget.  Mary Beth Kaufman, family finance program specialist stresses that the “Smart Choice workshops will not be an avenue for enrolling consumers in health insurance or for providing one-on-one advice about health insurance….” instead, by attending the meeting, consumers will be better able to understand and make sound choices.  Kaufman will teach the Smart Choice class in Harlan on Monday December 2 at the Shelby County Extension office at 906 6th Street from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Pre-registration is encouraged for the Smart Choice workshop which is free to you thanks to the Shelby County Extension District and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.  Consumers are encouraged to pre-register by calling the Shelby County Extension office by November 27 at 712-755-3014.

Reeling Iowa St visits No. 22 Oklahoma

Sports

November 15th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma’s shot at a Big 12 Conference title and a Bowl Championship Series berth likely ended with a loss to Baylor last week, meaning a program with one of the nation’s proudest traditions had to reassess its benchmarks for the rest of the season. Senior center Gabe Ikard says the Sooners’ main goal now is just to win. That’s something they’ve done often against their foe Iowa State, which they’ll play on Saturday.

No. 22 Oklahoma (7-2, 4-2 Big 12) is 70-5-2 all-time against the Cyclones. Iowa State coach Paul Rhodes says it’s “a series that is as lopsided as exists in the Iowa State record books.” If the Sooners are to post the 35th 10-win season in program history, a win over Iowa State (1-8, 0-6) would seem to be a must, with road games at Kansas State and Oklahoma State remaining before a bowl game.
