TX man stopped in Harrison County says he robbed a gas station

News

December 6th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

A traffic stop early Thursday morning in Harrison County resulted in the arrest of a Texas man on a suspicion of first-degree robbery, charge. According to the Daily NonPareil, 52-year old Robert Kelly, of Round Rock, TX, was pulled over at around 4-a.m. Thursday near Modale, for driving erratically. Kelly allegedly told the deputy who stopped him, that he had robbed a gas station just 90-minutes earlier, in Council Bluffs.

The deputy detained Kelly while his story was being checked out. An investigation revealed the Kwik Shop on North 16th Street and Avenue G in Council Bluffs was robbed by a man wielding a folding knife, at around 2:30-a.m. Thursday. The suspect, later identified as Kelly, allegedly took an undisclosed amount of money and also stepped behind the counter to take bottles of liquor and cigarettes. He then made the clerk get down on the floor before he fled.

Police investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the Kwik Shop and determined Kelly had left in a silver Chevy Malibu. The same type of vehicle Kelly was driving when he was pulled over. The man was transported by Harrison County deputies to Council Bluffs, where he was being held in the Pottawattamie County Jail on $25,000 bond.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Melissa Dixon scored seven of her game-high 27 points in the final 1:22 as No. 25 Iowa came back to defeat 22nd-ranked and previously unbeaten Syracuse 97-91 in the Big Ten/ACC challenge Thursday night. Dixon hit all 27 points — on 7 of 11 3-pointers — after halftime as Iowa (9-1) clawed back from a 47-37 gap.

Bethany Doolittle scored a career-high 25 for the Hawkeyes, Samantha Logic added 14 and Kali Peschel 10 with eight rebounds. The Hawkeyes hadn’t led since 12:06 of the first half when a Dixon 3 brought them to 71-69, and then Peschel grabbed a defensive rebound and scored for a 72-71 lead.

Syracuse (8-1) was led by 25 points on 10-for-13 shooting from Brittney Sykes, who also hauled down 10 boards. Sykes scored 10 of her points in the final 7:14 as she and Iowa’s Dixon and Logic traded baskets and the lead.

Chiefs revolving O-line finally hits stride

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Branden Albert is hurt, so is Jon Asamoah, and the No. 1 overall pick in last April’s draft has gone through a painful series of growing pains this season. It’s been a tough time to be a member of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line.

Yet despite all the shuffling caused by a spate of injuries, the front five has played perhaps its best football of the season the last three weeks, which just so happen to have coincided with the offense’s best performances of the season — and a frustrating three-game losing streak.

Offensive guard Jeff Allen said the line is simply getting comfortable with coach Andy Reid’s offense. Finally, after 12 weeks of regular-season games.
