DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa coach Fran McCaffery’s solution to having 10 guys who can play has been to play them all. It has made the Hawkeyes one of the deepest and most dangerous teams in the country. No. 23 Iowa (10-1) heads into Friday night’s game at No. 17 Iowa State (7-0) with a rotation that’s the envy of opponents everywhere. The Hawkeyes have 10 players averaging at least 15 minutes per game, and they’re getting nearly half of their Big Ten-leading 89.5 points a game from their backups.

Iowa’s talented and experienced pool of reserves is a major reason why the Hawkeyes are fourth nationally with a scoring margin of plus-24.6 a game.

Authorities in Iowa say a Union County man was charged Wednesday morning with attempted murder and Going Armed with Intent, in connection with an incident in the Adams County town of Corning, Tuesday evening. 32-year old Peter Wiley, of Creston, was arrested by a Creston Police Officer after a chase and fiery crash, Wednesday.

Authorities were called to the Casey’s in Corning Tuesday, after a woman had reported being shot at. The information regarding Wiley was broadcast, and on Wednesday morning, a Creston police officer spotted his vehicle and attempted to stop it.  A short pursuit ensued that ended with Wiley’s car sliding into a ditch.  As officers were approaching the vehicle and assisting Wiley from it, the car caught fire and rapidly burned.  Wiley suffered burns to his hands. He was treated, and taken into custody.

As a result of the chase, Wiley faces additional charges in Union County. The charges include Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Eluding, and Hit and Run.  He was transported to Adams County jail where he remains awaiting his initial appearance. In addition to the Adams and Union County incidents, Peter Wiley is also suspected in a shooting incident earlier in the same evening in rural Page County.  His brother, 40-year old Raymond Wiley, was dropped off at the Shenandoah Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.  He was transported to an Omaha area hospital where he remains today.  His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is coordinating the investigation with assistance from the Page County Sheriff’s Office, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the Creston Police Department, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office.
