Chiefs WR McCluster ruled out for Oakland game

December 14th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Chiefs wide receiver Dexter McCluster has been ruled out for Sunday’s game in Oakland after developing an infection in a small cut on his ankle. The Chiefs were wary that McCluster may have developed MRSA, but trainer Rick Burkholder said tests came back negative for the serious strain of staph infection. McCluster has been receiving antibiotics to treat the infection.

McCluster, who’s returned two punts for touchdowns this season, had been listed as questionable for the Raiders. A team spokesman said Saturday he will not make the trip. He sustained the cut last week in the mud and snow at Washington. The Chiefs had already ruled out left tackle Branden Albert with a hyperextended knee, tight end Anthony Fasano with a concussion and linebacker Justin Houston with a dislocated elbow.

Monona County auditor resigns after effort to remove her

News

December 14th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

ONAWA, Iowa (AP) – The Monona County auditor is resigning after efforts by officials to remove her from office following her arrest on drug charges. The Sioux City Journal reported Friday that Auditor Brooke Kuhlmann submitted a letter of resignation.

At the request of county commissioners, Monona County Attorney Michael Jensen filed a motion last month to remove Kuhlmann from office. The motion noted Kuhlmann hasn’t been coming to work since she was charged last July with buying methamphetamine from an undercover state trooper.

Kuhlmann has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. Her trial is scheduled for February 18th.  Kuhlmann was elected as a Democrat in 2008 and re-elected in 2012.

Le Mars official: Don’t do any laundry

News

December 14th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

LE MARS, Iowa (AP) – Residents of Le Mars are being cautioned to hold off on their laundry because a water main break has caused rusty water to flow from customers’ taps.  City Water Superintendent Gayle Sitzmann tells the Le Mars Daily Sentinel it took about 45 minutes to shut down the water main Friday, and during that time pressure in water lines varied greatly. That caused water to scour the lines, releasing rust into the water that reaches most of the city’s residents.

Sitzmann says it’s unclear how long the rust-colored water would remain. Until the water clears, she recommends against doing laundry, especially of white clothes.
