Multi-vehicle accident in Cass County on I-80

Rescue crews from in Atlantic have been called to a multi-vehicle accident this morning on I-80 in Cass County. The call came in at around 6:28-a.m. from Interstate 80 westbound at the 60 mile marker, or just west of the Highway 71 interchange. At least two people were hurt, including a man with a shoulder injury, and a pregnant female who was having trouble breathing.  Crews from Atlantic Fire & Rescue, Anita Rescue and Medivac were called to the scene.

No other details are available. Another accident reported at the 48-mile marker westbound has a car on its top in the traveled portion of the road. At 6:51-a.m., the Iowa Dot’s Website at 511ia.org reported I-80 westbound between Exit 46 (County Road M-47) and Exit 51 (County Road M-56 near Walnut) was blocked due to an accident.

Exira man arrested on theft and FIP of firearm charges

Police in Audubon report the arrest on Saturday of 35-year old Scott Harold Toepfer, of Exira. Toepfer was charged with Theft in the 4th Degree and three counts of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. His arrest stems from the execution of a search warrant.
Toepfer was transported to the Audubon County Sheriff’s Office where he was being held on $5000 bond.  His arrest was made by officers with the Audubon Police Department with the assistance of deputies from the Audubon County Sheriff’s Office.

BEULAH J. LUCAS, 100, of Des Moines (& formerly of Audubon), died Sat., Feb. 1st, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for BEULAH LUCAS will be held 1:30-p.m. Thu., Feb. 6th, at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.

BEULAH LUCAS is survived by:

Her sons – Gary (Joan) Lucas, of Indianola, & Joseph (Nancy) Lucas, of West Des Moines.

Her brother – Dr. Wendall J. Kopp, of Oak Ridge, TN.

Her sister – Alicemae Bradley, of Indianola.

5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and many nieces.

BIRODA J. SEASTROM, 87, of Audubon, died Sun., Feb. 2nd, at the Friendship Home in Audubon. Funeral services for BIRODA SEASTROM will be held 2-p.m. Wed., Feb. 5th, at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 1-pm Wed. until the time of service.

The urn will be placed in a niche at the United Methodist Church in Fairfield Bay, AR.

Her husband – Marvin R. Seastrom, of Audubon.

Her children – Marilyn (JIm) Dent, of Kansas City, MO; Judy Seastrom, of Evansdale; Cheryl (Steve) Elliott, of Elkhorn, NE, & Michael (Sandy) Seastrom, of Greenbriar, AR.

Her sister – Melva Stone, of Audubon.

GRACE HANSEN, 91, a resident of Caring Acres in Anita, died Sun., Feb. 2nd. Funeral services for GRACE HANSEN will be held 10:30-a.m. Mon., Feb. 10th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4-to 6-pm Sun., Feb. 9th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

GRACE HANSEN is survived by:

Her sons – David (Linda) Hansen, of Omaha; Dean (Kay) Hansen, of Anita, & Mark (Jill) Hansen, of Fremont.

Another Council Bluffs convenience store robbed

Police in Council Bluffs are investigating yet another armed robbery of a convenience store. Sgt. Dave Dawson says just before midnight, Monday, a white male in his 20’s entered the Kum- & Go store at 2024 5th Avenue, in Council Bluffs. The man grabbed a bottle of pop and approached the clerk at the counter. The suspect then reached into his right pocket and pulled out a hand gun, pointed it at the clerk and told him to open the cash drawer and give him all the money.

The suspect told the clerk he had quote “10 seconds to open the drawer, ” or he was going to kill him. The robber then took off with an undetermined amount of cash. It was the second time in the past 3 days the store was robbed. In this most recent incident, the suspect had brown hair, wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, and a scarf over his face.

An investigation into the incident continues. Sgt. Dawson it’s not known if the suspect(s) in the robberies are connected. Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 712-328-7867.
