The Glenwood Police Department reports three arrests on Saturday, August 27th.

Officers arrested 50-year-old Eric Walters of Bellevue, NE for Public Intoxication. Walters was booked in to the Mills County Jail on $300 bond.

36-year-old Michelle Taylor-Kruntorad of Bellevue, NE was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Bond was set at $1,000.

25-year-old Austin Swift of Omaha, NE was arrested for OWI 1st Offense. Bond was set at $1,000.

The Creston Police Department reports 4 arrests over the weekend.

On Friday, August 26th at 9:29 a.m. Officers arrested 32-year-old Brooke Marie Carter of Creston on a Union County Warrant for Theft 5th Degree. Carter was arrested at 901 N Elm St. and was transported to the Union County Jail and later released on bond.

Also on Friday at 11:08 p.m. Creston Police arrested 55-year-old Joseph Edwin King Sr. at 100 Maple Street. He was arrested on a Walcott Police Warrant for Failure to Appear for Indecent Exposure. He was booked in to the Union County Jail and later released on $1,000 cash only bond.

On Saturday, August 27th at 1:58 a.m. Creston Police arrested 20-year-old Kason Eugene Hulett of Lenox for OWI 2nd Offense and Driving While Revoked. Hulett was booked in to the Union County Jail and later released on $3,000 cash or surety bond.

Also on Sunday, August 28th at 10:16 p.m. Officers arrested 20-year-old Courtney Lin Whitney at her home. Whitney was later cited and released on a charge of Harassment 2nd Degree.

Storms passing through portions of Western Iowa on Monday morning dropped some hail and heavy rain along the way. In Stuart quarter size hail, strong winds, and heavy rainfall was reported at around 6:30 a.m. A KJAN listener reported 3.25″ of rainfall fell during the overnight in Stuart.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports two arrests on Sunday.

At approximately 3:39 a.m. Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2500 block of 110th Street. After investigation they arrested 35-year-old Jessie Bruce Fitzwater of Council Bluffs on two Adams County Warrants, one for Failure to Appear on Possession of Methamphetamine and the other for Failure to Appear on an OWI charge. Fitzwater was taken to the Adams County Jail to be booked in.

At 8:53 p.m. on Sunday Deputies tried stopping a white Nissan Altima at the intersection of 110th Street and C Avenue and the vehicle began eluding, continuing eastbound. The vehicle eventually came to a stop at H Avenue and 110th Street and the driver Clyde Everette Zeigler of Red Oak was arrested. He was charged withe Driving While Suspended and Eluding Law Enforcement. He was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $1,491.25 bond.

(Hubbard, Iowa) – A collision between a semi tractor-trailer and a station wagon Sunday night, south of Hubbard, in Hardin County, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 1996 Volvo station wagon was traveling east on County Road D-65, and failed to stop at the posted intersection with Highway 65.

A 2005 Kenworth semi traveling south on Highway 65 struck the Volvo. The driver of the station wagon died at the scene. Another person was injured and transported by Hubbard EMS to the hospital in Iowa Falls. No names had been released as of this report. The accident remains under investigation.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, the Hardin County Emergency Squad, Hubbard Fire and EMS, Iowa Falls EMS and the Iowa DOT’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement Agency assisted at the scene.

Tour group within the new Tyler Family Cancer Center.

ATLANTIC, IOWA – Officials at Cass Health, Sunday afternoon, unveiled the Tyler Family Cancer Center during their open house on Sunday. The Tyler Family Cancer Center is the treatment and infusion section of the Cass Health Specialty Clinic. CEO Brett Altman said “This has been brewing over the last several months, and I am thrilled to share this exciting news with our community. Cass Health provides excellent cancer care, and we are proud to partner with the Tyler family to bring awareness to patients throughout southwest Iowa. The Tylers are a local family that know all too well the impacts of cancer and what a difference it makes to receive care close to home from the neighbors you trust. It is with profound gratitude that we announce that they have made a very generous gift to cover the expense of our remodeled cancer care center.”

Members of the family were present for the unveiling and tours of the new area, which was completely remodeled this spring and summer. Kirk Tyler said  “All of us here today have been touched by cancer – whether family, friends, or ourselves, we know the devastation that it can cause. In our own family, we lost our mom, Dottie, and most recently, our sister, Amy, to cancer. While I wish we could solve cancer – what we can do is help comfort and support the patients and families who are battling cancer now and in the years to come.” The Tyler Family Cancer Center provides care to patients throughout southwest and west central Iowa. Multiple oncologists and advanced practice providers work in the department. Oncologist Dr. Seema Harichand also spoke at the unveiling along with oncology patient Mike Henningsen.

After the announcement, visitors toured the newly expanded space and talked with the staff. Cass Health Specialty Clinic Director Traci Brockman, RN, said “This space has become a calming refuge for patients who often spend hours receiving treatments, like chemotherapy. We put a lot of thought and care into the details. The chairs have heat and massage functions, the colors are subdued, and we have a custom ceiling with star lights. All of these things help create a healing environment for our patients to relax.”

(Red Oak, Iowa) – Montgomery County Auditor Jill Ozuna reports the Board of Supervisors in her county will meet at 8-a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30th, in their courthouse meeting room. The only thing of note on their agenda, is continued discussion with regard to a Pipeline Engineer, and action as necessary.

Last week, the Board voted to go with Snyder and Associates Engineers, as the company to conduct pipeline inspections, in advance of a proposed $4.5 billion pipeline in Iowa and four other states that would capture carbon dioxide at ethanol, fertilizer and other industrial agriculture facilities, liquefy it under pressure, then transport it via the pipeline to North Dakota, where it would be permanently sequestered underground. The pipeline would (if approved), traverse about 18 miles in the western third of Montgomery county.

At 8:45-a.m., Tuesday, the Montgomery County Board will attend one of Senator Charles Grassley’s 99 County tours. His stop will bring Grassley to Agri-Solutions. Ozuna notes “There is a possibility that there will be a quorum. No official county business will be acted upon during that time.”

(Creston, Iowa) – The Union County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday (today), said no injuries were reported following a collision that occurred just before seven-a.m., Friday, on the east side of Creston. Authorities say a 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 41-year-old Russell W. Peterson, of Creston, was eastbound on Highway 44. A 2020 Kenworth semi tractor-trailer equipped with a grain hopper, and driven by 45-year-old Adam R. Taylor, of Grand River, was westbound on Highway 34.

The pickup began to make a left turn onto Osage Street, when it clipped the left front corner of the semi. Peterson told Deputies he didn’t see the semi until the last minute, due to sun glare. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. Peterson was cited for Failure to Yield upon left turn.

Damage amounted to $7,500 for the pickup and $15,000 to the semi, which is registered to United Farmers Coop in Afton.

(Atlantic, Iowa) – Fierce winds and heavy rain blew through parts of western and central Iowa, Saturday evening and night, causing a power outage for part of Atlantic, as tree limbs broke and fell on power lines. As with previous Derecho-type winds, trees were left shredded in some areas, especially in downtown Atlantic, where KJAN’s Lori Murphy snapped some pictures of the damage. (See photo’s, click on image to enlarge). Winds gusting up to 55-miles per hour caused tree damage in Red Oak at around 6:30-p.m.

We received .66″ of rain between 5:30-and 6-p.m. Saturday, in Atlantic. Other rainfall amounts include:

• In Union County, anywhere from 2.25 to 2.75 inches of rain fell between Cromwell and Creston
• More than 4-inches fell two-miles west of Earlham, in Madison County.
• 2.22 to 3.54 inches fell across Dallas County.

Also: One-inch diameter hail fell near Grinnell, in Poweshiek County; four-inches of rain fell in Story County, near Gilbert.

Thus far, there have been no reports of injuries.
