Iowa baseball museum struggles when namesake dies

VAN METER, Iowa (AP) — Just three years after the death of former Cleveland Indians star Bob Feller, the Iowa museum built to honor the former Indians star finds itself gasping for life. Although officials are working toward a solution they believe will best appease the city, the Feller Museum board and the Indians, it’s clear that the museum will never be the same.

The museum shuttered its doors this winter because of an outdated business model led to major financial issues. The museum re-opened earlier this month with a scaled-down Friday to Sunday schedule. But officials aren’t certain it can make it through the end of September without a more permanent solution.

Lawmakers already looking ahead to 2015 session

News

April 26th, 2014 by Ric Hanson

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — With Iowa lawmakers expecting to adjourn within days, some are already looking forward to next year and the chance to renew efforts to pass legislation that failed this session. That includes several high profile bills, including proposals to toughen penalties for offenders in kidnapping cases involving minors and prohibit the use of webcams or teleconferencing as a means of dispensing abortion-inducing drugs to patients in remote locations.

A bill that used tax breaks and other enticements to encourage broadband Internet expansion in rural area also likely will come up again. The House surprisingly rejected that bill last week.

The Legislature that convenes next January could look decidedly different, as it will follow the November general election. Republicans currently hold a majority in the House, and Democrats control the Senate.
