Atlantic Girls Lead the Pack After Day One of Girls State Golf

The Atlantic girls are in first place by 1 stroke after day 1 of the Class 3-A State Golf Tourney @ Ames Country Club. Atlantic shot a 360. Kuemper Catholic is one stroke back at 361. Clear Lake is third at 367. Individually for Atlantic, Brooke Fletcher shot 85, Erin Olsen shot 87, Brooke Newell 92, Bailey Walter 96, Sarah Fixmer 106 and McKenna DenBeste 112.

In Class 2-A, Audubon is seventh with a team score of 385.  Dike-New Hartford leads with a 348.  Susie Bylund shot 85 for the Wheelers and is tied for seventh.  Also for Audubon, Faith Fliflet shot 89, Jorja Weitl shot 101 and Alexis Fabian posted a 112.

In Class 1-A, Grundy Center leads with a 355 team score.  Guthrie Center is sixth with a 416.  Mallory Osen leads the Tigers with a first round score of 90.  Maria Ahrens shot 98 and Taylor Louk shot 98.

The second and final round will be held today in all classes.

Bluffs man arrested in Red Oak, Monday

Police in Red Oak arrested a Pottawattamie County man Monday afternoon. 43-year old Kevin Michael Steadman, of Council Bluffs, was arrested at the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center on a Red Oak Police Department warrant for Obstruction of Emergency Communications and Domestic Abuse Assault. Steadman was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $300 bond.

EVELYN E. NORTHRUP, 95, of Audubon, died Sun., June 1st, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital. Services for EVELYN NORTHRUP will be held 10:30-a.m. Thu., June 5th, at the Hamlin Lutheran Church, in Hamlin. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Hamlin Lutheran Cemetery.

EVELYN NORTHRUP is survived by:

Her son – Larry (Sherry) Northrup, of Ames.

Her daughter – Linda (Don) Merk, of Audubon.

4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 2 step great-great grandchildren, other relatives & friends.

JULIE N. HANSEN, 59, of Davenport (& formerly of Elk Horn, IA), died May 29th, at home. A Celebration of Life service for JULIE HANSEN will be held 2:30-p.m. Thu., June 5th, in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Burial will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.

JULIE HANSEN is survived by:

Her parents – Richard H. & Norma Nelson, of Elk Horn.

Her son – Justin (Robyn) Hansen, of Austin, TX.

2 arrests in Red Oak Monday night – drug & alcohol related

Two people were arrested on separate charges Monday night, in Red Oak. The Police Department reports officers arrested 37-year old Richard Allen Straw, of Red Oak, at the intersection of N. 3rd and Nuckols Streets, for Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana. Straw was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving While Suspended. He was taken into custody at around 9:40-p.m. and brought to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center, where his bond was set at $2,000.

And, at around11:55-p.m., Red Oak Police arrested 23-year old Kirsten Lynn Wilwerding, of Red Oak. She was found lying in the top floor hallway of an apartment building, allegedly intoxicated. Wilwerding was taken into custody on a charge of Public Intoxication, and brought to the Montgomery County Jail, where she was being held on $300 bond.

Breezy, with an east southeast wind 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.
Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Breezy, with an east wind 7 to 17 mph becoming north northwest in the morning.
