CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have activated catcher Welington Castillo from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday. Castillo missed 18 games with inflammation in his left rib cage. He had a two-game rehab stint with Triple-A Iowa. On the season, Castillo is hitting .242 with five home runs and 21 RBIs for the Cubs.

Cubs manager Rick Renteria did not have Castillo in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Pirates. To make room for Castillo, the Cubs designated catcher Eli Whiteside for assignment. In eight games, Whiteside was 3 for 25 with two RBIs.

Bluffs Police search for man who allegedly robbed 4 stores Sunday morning

News

June 22nd, 2014 by Ric Hanson

Police in Council Bluffs area searching for a man they say robbed two convenience stores this (Sunday) morning, and tried to rob two other businesses. The suspect, a white man in the 20’s, is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be confronted if observed. He was said to be wearing a long-sleeve black shirt, black cargo pants and black gloves. He was also carrying a red duffel bag. During the robbery attempts, he wore blue or tinted panty hose over his face.

During the first incident, which took place at 12:45-a.m., the suspect entered the Eddy’s Station at 611 East Broadway Street, and brandished a long-barreled handgun (possibly a revolver). He ordered a customer near the counter of the convenience store to drop to his knees. The suspect then pointed the gun at the clerk and ordered them to hand over the cash. The man fled the store with an undetermined amount of money.

The second incident happened at around 1:37-a.m.  The suspect entered the Quick Shop at 1601 Avenue G in Council Bluffs and pointed a gun at the clerk. He once again got away with an undetermined amount of cash. Less than a half an-hour later, the suspect tried to enter the Microtel Inn at 2141 S. 35th Street. He got in the main door, but was stopped at the security door. He displayed a gun, but realizing he was not going to get any money, took off.

The latest incident happened at around 2:21-a.m., when the suspect tried to rob the Speedy Mart at 3624 9th Avenue in Council Bluffs. The man pointed a gun at the clerk, who was in a glass secured area with the window open. The clerk immediately dropped to the floor. The suspect failed to secure any money from the business.

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 712-328-7867. Again, the suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.
