FREDERICK “FRITZ” SIMPSON, 86, of Omaha, formerly of Atlantic died Saturday, June 28th at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.  Memorial services for FREDERICK “FRITZ” SIMPSON will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 11:00 am at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.  Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Burial in the Atlantic Cemetery Thursday at 9:45 am.

RUTH L. WATERS, 85, of Atlantic died Sunday, June 29th at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.  Mass of Christian Burial for RUTH L. WATERS will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 11:00 am at the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic.  Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

ROBERT C. LAWSON, 92, of Dexter, died Sun., June 29th, at the Stuart Community Care Center. Funeral services for ROBERT LAWSON will be held 10:30-a.m. Thu., July 3rd, at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Dexter.

Visitation will be from 5-until 7-pm Wed., July 2nd, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Dexter Cemetery.

Malvern woman injured during motorcycle accident

A woman from Malvern was injured Saturday during a motorcycle accident in Mills County. Sheriff’s officials say Mary Holbrook, of Malvern, was transported by helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha following the accident, which took place just after 6-p.m. Saturday on Main Street, in Malvern. According to the Sheriff’s report, a 1999 Ford driven by Jesse Perkins, of Hastings, was backing out of a private driveway onto Main Street, when Perkins noticed Holbrook’s 1996 Kawasaki approaching southbound.

Perkins drove back into the drive, but Holbrook braked hard and laid the motorcycle on its side. There was no contact between the vehicles.

And, no injuries were reported after a 1994 Ford driven by Zane Carter, of Thurman, hit a parked vehicle on 225th Street in Mills County, early Saturday morning. Carter was subsequently arrested for OWI/2nd offense.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF IOWA AND NEBRASKA HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS HEAVY RAIN IS NO LONGER A THREAT. HOWEVER THERE ARE STILL FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS IN EFFECT FOR PORTIONS OF THE AREA…BUT ADDITIONAL FLASH FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED.

 

Mills County arrests

Authorities in Mills County report four people were arrested recently. On Saturday, 20-year old Colton Frank Sederburg, of Riverton, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $1,300. And, 20-year old Zane Christian Carter, of Thurman, was arrested Saturday for OWI/2nd offense. His bond was set at $2,000.

On Thursday, 20-year old Bragun Michael Michaelsen, of Pacific Junction, was arrested at the Fremont County Jail on a warrant for Probation Violation. His bond was set at $25,000.  That same day, 39-year old Jeremy Jack Rusco, of Glenwood, was arrested for Driving While Revoked. His bond was set at $1,000.

Officials report possible tornado activity in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Officials are monitoring severe weather in central Iowa that’s capable of producing tornadoes. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning Monday for parts of Adair, Dallas, Guthrie and Madison counties. The warning was allowed to expire at 1:15-p.m.

Officials say a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located four miles southeast of Earlham. Another severe thunderstorm was reported nine miles east of Roland. Officials say there’s the potential for 2-inch hail and strong winds.
