LINDA LOU FLUG, 63, of Harlan, died Tue., July 29th, at home. Funeral services for LINDA FLUG will be held 2-p.m. Sat., Aug, 2nd at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Visitation at the funeral home is from 5-to 9-pm Friday (8/1), with the family greeting friends from 6-to 8-pm.

Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

LINDA FLUG is survived by:

Her mother – Ingebourg Warner, of Harlan.

Her husband – Mike Flug, of Harlan.

Her daughter – Jenny (Michael) Scheffler, of Harlan.

Her sister – Sue (Kenny) Kobold, of Harlan.

Her brothers – Steven Murray, of Des Moines, & Gary Murray, of Harlan.

and, 5 grandchildren.

MICHAEL JAMES GOETZ, 82, of Harlan, died Thu., July 31st, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. A Mass of Christian Burial service for MIKE GOETZ will be held 10-a.m. Sat., Aug. 2nd, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation at St. Boniface is from 6-to 9-pm Fri., Aug. 1st, with a Wake service at 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery.

MIKE GOETZ is survived by:

His wife – Elaine Goetz, of Harlan.

His daughters – Cindy (Jay Watts) Finken, & Michelle (Brian) Schmitz, all of Omaha; Janice (Shawn) Schoeneck, of St. Joseph, MO; Ann (Chad) Heithoff, of Harlan: Lori (Craig) Graeve.

His sister – Ria Doran, of Corley.

12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Commission wants former Iowa prosecutor punished

WINTERSET, Iowa (AP) – A commission has recommended to the Iowa Supreme Court that a former prosecutor who beat a client that he’d had a sexual relationship with should be barred from practicing law for at least four years. The Des Moines Register says the Iowa Supreme Court’s Grievance Commission also criticized Anthony Zane Blessum for his lack of remorse. Among other findings, the commission said in its recommendation to the Supreme Court that Blessum had neglected his duties for the client.

In March 2013 Blessum pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman on June 11, 2012. He was given seven days in jail, probation and was told to pay her nearly $7,000 in restitution. Blessum was Madison County attorney from 1987 through 1997.

Blessum’s lawyer says Blessum was disappointed by the commission’s findings.

Southwest IA authorities looking for stolen pickup

Authorities in southwest Iowa are asking for the public’s help in locating a pickup that was reported stolen early this (Thursday) morning out of Red Oak. Red Oak Police reported a white and silver 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 pickup (Iowa license plate 472 YKT) was stolen from the 100 block of west Maple Street. The victim believes the vehicle…possibly driven by a female…was on its way to Council Bluffs.

The pickup has a broken back window covered with duct tape. If you have any information as to the location of the vehicle, call the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center at 712-623-6500. If you see the pickup, do not approach the vehicle or driver, just call 9-1-1 immediately.

UNI official calls for UNI-Dome improvements

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – The University of Northern Iowa’s athletic director says the school needs to make improvements to the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. Troy Dannen told The Des Moines Register Wednesday that renovations to the stadium will be part of a broader campaign that is “a couple of years” away. Although it’s too early to talk about costs, Dannen says renovations to the dome, opened in 1976, would be a “low eight-figure project.”

Dannen says the stadium needs wider concourse areas, premium seating and larger restrooms. He noted there have been few changes to the dome since it opened, though $1.2 million is being spent on a scoreboard upgrade in the stadium and in the neighboring McCloud Center.

The dome’s current seating capacity of 16,300 likely wouldn’t change much.
