$2,500 donation to Atlantic Little League by Frederickson Mem. Fund

The Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund recently donated $2,500 to the Atlantic Little League.  Fund spokesperson (Trevor’s mom) Melanie Petty, says the money will be used for fencing improvements to the fields.  Although a normal season wasn’t held this year due to COVID-19, Petty says the board continued to do work on the fields and grounds to update them and have them ready to go for the clinics that were held along with different travel teams and this year,  the AHS Softball program.  She says “Atlantic should be very proud of the facilities that are available for our children to play on.”

Petty says baseball is one of the fund’s favorite things to help with, as Trevor played ball from the time he was 5 years old all the way through college.  After college he continued to play ball on town leagues.  It was a true passion of his.

The annual TFred Memorial Golf Tournament will be happening in just over a month on August 8th at Nishna Hills Golf Course.  Melanie Petty says “We are looking forward to a great day of golf and hope to see a lot of people out there.  There is still time to sign up your team to golf, donate an item for our silent auction or sponsor a hole.  All money raised is given back to the community that Trevor loved.”

The Trevor Frederickson Fund ia a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization. Petty says they look forward to another year of giving back [to the community].

NEW YORK (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have replaced the New York Yankees as the opponent for the Chicago White Sox in the Field of Dreams game on Aug. 13 at Dyersville, Iowa. The schedule change caused by the new coronavirus pandemic meant the White Sox no longer play the Yankees this season. The new opponent, first reported by The Des Moines Register, was confirmed to The Associated Press by a person familiar with the arrangements who spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the matchup has not been announced. Major League Baseball hopes to announce its new schedule next week.

KANSAS CITY (AP) – The Kansas City Royals have launched what they are calling a “Fanbassador” program in which up to 500 fans may purchase a plastic cutout of their likeness for $40 apiece that will be displayed in a seat at Kauffman Stadium during the abbreviated 2020 season. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Royals Respond Fund.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — The NCAA’s infractions case against the University of Kansas men’s basketball program has been accepted into a newly created independent investigation process that was created to handle especially complex cases. The Independent Accountability Resolution Process said Wednesday that a referral of the case against the Jayhawks and coach Bill Self had been approved by the infractions referral committee. It is the first step in a process that was created in August 2018 to deal with select cases and minimize perceived conflicts of interest.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas State is launching a diversity and education fund to address racial injustice after football players threatened a boycott in response to an insensitive tweet by a student about the death of George Floyd. The school also said student-athletes, coaches and staff would undergo mandatory diversity and inclusion training that includes monthly town hall sessions. And it announced that it would provide transportation for athletes to voting locations on Election Day.

Spieker leads the way in CAM win over Exira-EHK

The CAM Cougars got a strong performance from Lane Spieker on the mound and at the plate on Wednesday night as they improved to 9-0 with an 8-2 win over Exira-EHK. Spieker started on the mound and went 5 full frames allowing just 3 hits and 2 unearned runs with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks on the night. Spieker said the arm felt pretty good.

Spieker also came up big at the plate early. He hit a two-run homerun in the first inning to left field. That was part of a 4-run frame for the Cougars to help them grab the lead early. Spieker said he had a good idea he was gonna get a good look on that pitch.

Spieker finished 3-4 on the night and scored three runs. Colby Rich came in to finish the pitching duties in the sixth and racked up four strikeouts. Spieker said Colby has been doing a great job being relatively new to the duties.

The Cougars remain unbeaten but do have a tough schedule ahead. They travel to Southwest Valley on Thursday and then face two ranked opponents on the schedule next week from Class 2A in Underwood and Woodward-Granger. A tough Audubon team awaits as well on Wednesday in a game we’ll have on KJAN. Spieker knows they have some work to do.

Exira-EHK falls to 1-8 on the season with the loss. Trey Petersen took the loss on the mound, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits before leaving with an elbow injury in the fourth. Cash Emgarten finished the game on the mound for the Spartans. Tyler Petersen went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. The Spartans travel to Woodbine on Friday.
