DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Quinton Hooker scored 16 points and hit a go-ahead, driving layup with 14 seconds left as North Dakota put together a late surge to beat Drake 63-62 on Saturday. Trailing by five with under a minute left, Hooker sank a layup and then stole the ball, leading to Estan Tyler’s putback with 33 seconds left. Another turnover by Drake set up Hooker’s go-ahead score and North Dakota’s first lead of the game.
Hooker wasn’t done there, as he blocked Reed Timmer’s layup attempt. Drake got one more look, but Jordan Daniels couldn’t connect on a 3-pointer in the final seconds. North Dakota (3-4) shot 53.2 percent from the field, with Tyler and Terrel de Rouen each chipping in 15 points. Jaron Nash added nine points with eight rebounds.
Timmer led the Bulldogs (1-7) with 13 points and Daniels had 12. Drake shot over 50 percent, but committed 19 turnovers.
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Tre Roberson threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns and Marshaun Coprich become Illinois State’s single-season rushing leader with his 12th-straight 100-yard game to lead the Redbirds to a 41-21 win over Northern Iowa on Saturday.
The Panthers (9-5) won the first meeting of these Missouri Valley Conference rivals 44-28 to start a five-game winning streak to make the FCS playoffs but fell behind 24-0 at halftime. The Redbirds (11-1) extended their school-record winning to 13.
Roberson had two touchdown passes in the first half and Coprich ran for a score as Illinois State piled up 345 yards to 52 for Northern Iowa. The Redbirds finished with 564 yards to UNI’s 335. Coprich had 148 yards on 30 carries giving the league MVP 1,831 this season.
Cameron Meredith had seven catches for 115 yards and James O’Shaughnessy four for 105 and both had two touchdowns.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Trevone Boykin passed for a career-high 460 yards and caught a touchdown pass as No. 4 TCU earned at least a share of the Big 12 championship and did nothing to hurt its case to be included in the College Football Playoff with a 55-3 victory against lowly Iowa State on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) came into championship weekend ranked third in the selection committee’s rankings. TCU was the only playoff contender not playing a ranked team this weekend. There wasn’t much the Frogs could do help themselves against the Cyclones (2-10, 0-9), but they avoided the type of clunker that could have caused the committee to downgrade them.
Iowa State finished winless in the Big 12 for the first time since 2008, and the first time under sixth-year coach Paul Rhoads.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Peter Jok and Gabe Olaseni each tied career highs with 15 points apiece and Iowa trounced Maryland-Baltimore County 77-47 on Saturday. Aaron White had 14 points in just 17 minutes for the Hawkeyes (7-2), who’ve won five straight since back-to-back losses to Texas and Syracuse
Iowa went on a 20-0 run midway through the first half, turning the rest of the game into a glorified exhibition. The Hawkeyes led by as many as 35 points. Cody Joyce had nine points to lead the winless Retrievers. UMBC (0-8) committed 26 turnovers.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Iowa athletic director Gary Barta is reiterating his support for football coach Kirk Ferentz, while acknowledging that the Hawkeyes failed to live up to expectations this season. Barta said Saturday that the team’s 7-5 season “isn’t unacceptable,” adding that success at Iowa is measured by championships. But Barta says Iowa has a strong foundation under Ferentz, now in his 16th season as head coach.
Ferentz has five seasons left on the 10-year contract extension he signed on the eve of the 2010 season. It includes a buyout clause of nearly $3 million a year should Iowa decided to fire Ferentz. The Hawkeyes (7-5, 4-4 Big Ten) closed the season with home losses to Wisconsin and Nebraska.
They’ll find out which bowl they’re headed to on Sunday.
JOHN CROSSWHITE, 81, of Greenfield, died Sat., Dec 6th, 2014, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield. Funeral services for JOHN CROSSWHITE will be held 11-a.m. Tue., Dec. 9th, at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield has the arrangements.

One-person was killed during a single-vehicle rollover accident Saturday morning, in Carroll County. The Iowa State Patrol reports 44-year old Kevin J. Steffes, of Templeton, died in the crash northeast of Templeton at around 7:20-a.m.
Officials say Steffes was driving a 2000 Chevy 2500 pickup southbound on Kittyhawk Avenue, just south of 250th Street, when his pickup left the road and entered the west ditch, where it rolled over and came to rest on its passenger side, facing north.
Steffes, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported by Templeton Rescue to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, where he died.
