ARLENE MUSFELDT, 96, of Manning died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Manning Plaza. Funeral services for ARLENE MUSFELDT will be held Tuesday, January 13th at 11:00am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning has the arrangements.
Friends may call after 10:00am Tuesday, January 13th at the church prior to the services.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Officials were led on a pursuit early Saturday morning that ended in a Stanton man being arrested. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop at approximately 2:57am at 190th Street and M Avenue in Montgomery County when the vehicle fled the scene and led deputies on a chase.
The vehicle was later determined to be stolen from Stanton on Friday and deputies were eventually able to disable the vehicle and arrest the driver. 27-year-old Richard Dean Pierce III of Stanton was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Theft, Felony Eluding, and Driving While Barred. Pierce III was taken to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center and held on $5,000 cash bond.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Red Oak Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County K-9, Pottawattamie County, and Iowa State Patrol.

KRISPY GOOD-FOR-YOU GRANOLA
INGREDIENTS:
1/3 c. maple syrup
1/3 c. light brown sugar
½ c. cooking oil
4 t. vanilla
½ t. salt
2 c. chopped almonds
2 T. flax seed
5 c. old-fashioned oatmeal
1 c. dark raisins
1 c. dried cherries
1 c. flaked sweetened coconut
METHOD:
In a large bowl, whisk together syrup, brown sugar, cooking oil, vanilla, and salt. Stir in almonds, flax seed, and oatmeal. Pour mixture into a ½-sheet-size baking pan that has been lined with parchment paper for easier cleanup. Press mixture firmly evenly into pan. Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 40-45 min., rotating pan halfway through baking. Remove from oven and cool for 1 hr. Break granola into pieces. Stir in raisins, dried cherries, and coconut. Makes about 9 c. granola. May be kept in a closed container for a week. Enjoy as a snack by itself or with milk or yogurt.
**The original recipe from America’s Test Kitchen did not include flax seed, dried cherries, or coconut. A variety of dried fruits and seeds can be added or deleted according to your preference.

The Red Oak Police Department reports the arrest of a Red Oak woman on a valid Montgomery County Warrant for Failure to Appear on a charge of Breach of Peace. At approximately 10:56pm on Friday, January 9th officers arrested 44-year-old Shelby Joann Olivares of Red Oak in the 300 block of North 2nd Street in Red Oak. She was transported and held at the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center on $1,000 cash bond.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of a Shambaugh man for OWI First Offense and Open Container on Friday, January 9, 2015. A traffic stopped was conducted at 12:40pm near the 67 mile-marker on Highway 34 and the driver 43-year-old Tad Madden of Shambaugh was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. No futher details are known.
