FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say three people have been arrested in connection to a lockdown at a community college campus in Fort Dodge. The Fort Dodge Police Department says the three people each face one count of aiding and abetting second-degree robbery. Court records do not indicate formal charges have been filed. Authorities are looking for a fourth suspect. No shots and no injuries were reported.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An employee union is asking a court to overturn a ruling that bans state workers from wearing pins critical of Gov. Terry Branstad. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees recently filed a motion asking the Polk County District Court to intervene in a ruling issued by the Public Employment Relations Board. The board ruled in October that the pins worn by employees at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center represent “special circumstances” that interfere with prison decorum.

DUNKERTON, Iowa (AP) — Residents and officials in Dunkerton are discussing whether they should retain their tiny police department following the chief’s resignation in August. Police Chief Tim Schultz resigned amid an investigation into the alleged misuse of a city credit card. His departure left Dunkerton with only one full-time officer. The job opening has raised the question whether Dunkerton should contract with the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s office for protection.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Officials say the number of human cases of West Nile virus in Iowa is down compared to last year. Iowa Department of Public Health officials say the state had 15 human cases of the mosquito-borne disease as of Oct. 31. There were a total of 44 human cases in the state in 2013.

Food bank sees distribution of food rise this year by one-million pounds

Agencies that distribute food to the hungry are gearing up for what they anticipate will be a very busy winter ahead. Brian Barks, spokesman for the Omaha-based Food Bank for the Heartland, says this is the time of year when food drives pick up, but it’s also the season when food is needed the most, as more people in the region are requesting help. “This time last year, we were on pace to distribute almost 15-million pounds of food,” Barks says. “This year, we are on pace to distribute in excess of 16-million pounds of food.”

While donations have thankfully been more plentiful, Barks says the demand for food is even greater. “In Nebraska and western Iowa, approximately 217,000 people are at risk for hunger,” Barks says, “88,000 are children under the age of 18.” The food bank supplies food items to 285 pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens in 93 counties across western Iowa and Nebraska. A donation of just five-dollars, Barks says, can provide 15 meals.

DONALD DEAN DREYER, 79, of Fremont, NE (formerly of Oakland) died Tue., Nov. 11th, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha. Funeral services for DONALD DREYER will be held 1-p.m. Friday, Nov. 14th, at the Oakland Christian Church. Rieken-Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday evening from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland.

Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland.

DONALD DREYER is survived by:

His son – Gary Dreyer and wife Rojean of Oakland.

His sister – Rae Jean Namanny and husband Ed of Oakland.

His brother – Roger Dreyer and wife Ruth Ann of Edmond, OK.

His sister-in-law: Carol Dreyer of Oakland.

2 grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

DELORIS MARIE JACOBSON, 75, of Menlo, died Mon., Nov. 10th. Funeral Services for DELORIS JACOBSEN will be held at 10-am on Friday, Nov. 14th, at the Menlo United Methodist Church, with a luncheon to follow at the Menlo Community Center. Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart has the arrangements.

Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Adel.

ISU Football: Jack Trice Stadium Changes for Final Two Home Games

AMES, Iowa – Progress on the Jack Trice Stadium south end zone (SEZ) project will cause changes for fans attending the final two games (Texas Tech, Nov. 22; West Virginia, Nov. 29) of the 2014 Iowa State football home slate.

The most significant changes involve the discontinuance of seating on the south hillsides and entrances at the south end for the remaining two home games of the season. Fans who have purchased season hillside tickets will be directed to the north hillsides or sections S and R in the NE corner of Jack Trice Stadium.

The south end zone bleachers will still be in use for the final two games, however access to the seats will be altered because of construction. Fans will no longer be able to enter the south end zone bleachers from the south side of the stadium or south hillsides. Fans with seats in the south bleachers will be directed to use the stairs from the concourse on either the east or west side of the stadium.

Also, there will be no ADA ramp on the south side of the stadium. Patrons who are mobility impaired are encouraged to enter on the north side of the stadium where they will be driven to the concourse level by stadium staff members.

The Iowa State Athletics Department would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout the construction process of the SEZ project of Jack Trice Stadium.

VERNIE WETZEL, 93, formerly of Manning, died Tuesday, Nov. 11th, in Overland Park, Kansas. Funeral Services for VERNIE WETZEL will be held 10:30-a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15th, at the United Methodist Church in Manning. Ohde Funeral Home of Manning has the arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Friday (11/14) from 4 until 7-pm at the funeral home. Visitation will resume Saturday, from 9:30-a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be at the Manning Cemetery.

Chiefs promote West, sign Supernaw after injuries

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have promoted running back Charcandrick West from the practice squad and signed tight end Phillip Supernaw after losing Cyrus Gray and Demetrius Harris to season-ending injuries. West signed with the Chiefs as a rookie free agent this season, and had spent nine weeks on their practice squad. Supernaw has played four games in two seasons with the Ravens and Texans, and has spent time on both practice squads.

Gray, a special teams standout, tore an ACL in Sunday’s victory in Buffalo. Harris broke a bone in his foot during pregame warmups before facing the Bills. Both were put on injured reserve. The Chiefs signed tight end Adam Schiltz to fill their open spot on the practice squad. Winners of four straight, Kansas City plays Seattle on Sunday.
