Shenandoah Police report, 12/1/23-12/15/23

(Shenandoah, Iowa) – The Shenandoah Police Department reports there were six arrests between December 2nd and the 15th (2023). On Thursday (Dec. 14th), 34-year-old Shane Michener, of Norfolk, NE, was arrested in Shenandoah for Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree, Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, and Interference with Official Acts.

On Dec. 10th, 47-year-old David Berry, of Hamburg, was arrested in Shenandoah for Possession of drug Paraphernalia.

Authorities say 38-year-old Nicole Nicholas, of Shenandoah, and 47-year-old Clinton Glasgo, of Essex, were arrested Dec. 8th. Both were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. Nicholas was additionally charged with Furnishing a Controlled Substance at a Detention Center.

On Dec. 6th, Shenandoah Police arrested 37-year-old Chad Cody, of Shenandoah, for Poss. of a Controlled Substance/2nd offense, Poss. of paraphernalia, Keeping a vehicle or premises for Controlled Substance, and Driving While Suspended.

And, on Dec. 2nd, 61-year-old Jeffrey Pape, of Emerson, was arrested for PCS/3rd offense.

Audubon School Board set to meet Monday evening

(Audubon, Iowa) – The Audubon School Board will meet 7-p.m. Monday (Dec. 18), in the High School Board Room. Action items on their agenda, include approval of:

  • An SBRC request for MSA – Dropout Prevention
  • Garbage Collection Bid
  • Feld Quote for Security Improvements (Pending grant approval)
  • Change Orders
  • A Sharing Agreement with Exira/EHK
  • Contracts with Denovo and Melee for the design/building of a Bus Garage
  • approving Jason Walter to take freezers at the Bus Garage.

In his report to the Board, Superintendent Eric Trager is expected to provide updates on: The Building Project; Bus Garage, and Security Grant.

Semi driver from Queens, NY killed in a Cass County crash Saturday afternoon

(Anita, Iowa) – A man from New York died following an accident Saturday afternoon on westbound Interstate 80, in Cass County (IA). The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2022 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by 29-year-old Malak Singh, of S. Richmond Hill – Queens, NY, left the road near mile marker 72, for reasons unknown.

The semi rolled onto its side and crashed into the north ditch. Singh died at the scene. The accident happened a little before 4-p.m., Saturday.

The Patrol was assisted by Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

LeANN KLEIN, 56, of Harlan, died Tue., Dec. 12, 2023, at home. A Celebration of Life for LeANN KLEIN will be held at a later date. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is assisting the family.

LeANN KLEIN is survived by:

Her Mother – Constance Herbst, of Deloit (IA).

Her sons – Cody Klein and Sam Klein, both of Avoca.

Her daughters – Ashley Riesgaard, of Underwood, and Bailey Klein, of Earling.

Her sister – Robin (Tom) Powers, of Harlan.

Mr. GAIL LYNN BROCKMAN, 76, of Marne, died Friday, December 15, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Funeral services for GAIL BROCKMAN will be held 10:30-a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

A luncheon will be held following the funeral in the reception hall of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Visitation with family will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 22nd, from 5-until 7-p.m.

Private interment will be held at Zion Congregational Cemetery in Treynor.

GAIL LYNN BROCKMAN is survived by:

His wife – Carolyn Brockman, of Marne.

His sons – Jeff Brockman, of Griswold; Jerry (Shannon) Brockman, of Marne, and Tony (Traci) Brockman, of Atlantic.

His sister –  Marjorie (William) Hatcher, of Treynor.

10 grandchildren; and his brother-in-law.

Lewis Central Downs Atlantic in Boy’s Basketball

Four players scored double figures to lead Lewis Central over Atlantic 77-41 in boys’ basketball at Atlantic on Friday.

Jackson Larsen led the team with 16 points, Nash Paulson and Garret Rutledge 12, and Kamdyn Cross added 11.

The Titans led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter and 39-33 at the half. Colton Rasmussen carried the Trojans offensively with 14 first-half points and 23 for the game.

Lewis Central pulled away in the second half. Six players contributed to outscoring Atlantic 21-11 in the third quarter. Jackson Larsen drew the hot hand in the final frame with four three-point shots and 12 of the Titan’s 27 points., while holding the Trojans to 11 and seven respectively.

Besides, Rasmussen’s 23-points, Gavin McLaren posted 10, Brock Henderson, 4, Tyrell Williams, 3, and Zaydin Parker, 1.

Atlantic travels to Shenandoah on Tuesday. Lewis Central plays Gretna-East at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs today.

Nodaway Valley Boys Win 2023 Pride of Iowa Tournament

Nodaway Valley continues to win tournament after tournament as they won the Pride of Iowa Conference Tournament on Friday night with a total of 195 points. The Wolverines featured four first-place finishers which include Keyin Steeve (120), Carmine Shaw (144), Ashton Honnold (215), and Trenton Warner (285). The Wolverines were able to come over Martensdale-St Marys by just 17.5 total points. Lenox finished with 105 points in sixth place as they featured Dylan Stein (138)and Jorda Martin-England (175) in first. While in second place, they featured Chase England (157) and Jace Smith (285). The final results for each individual weight class are listed below while the team results are at the bottom of the page
