GENEVA KAVEN, 97, of Atlantic, died Sat., Feb. 28th, at the Heritage House, in Atlantic. Funeral services for GENEVA KAVEN will be held 10:30-a.m. Thu., March 5th, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Avoca. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Avoca has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-until 7-pm Wed., March 4th, with the family present.

Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery.

Her daughters – Jane (Dennis) Turner, of Atlantic, & Mary Leigh (Chuck) Morris, of Ames.

Her son – Dale (Mary Ann) Kaven, of Schuyler, NE.

8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, & 1 great-great grandchild.

Dixon, No. 17 Iowa women pull away from Minnesota 92-76

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Melissa Dixon hit eight 3-pointers and scored 27 points, two other players got close to triple-doubles on Sunday and No. 17 Iowa set a record for home wins with a 92-76 win over Minnesota that also secured No. 2 seed in the Big Ten tournament for the Hawkeyes. Samantha Logic had 24 points, 13 assists and 6 rebounds and Bethany Doolittle had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 9 blocks for the Hawkeyes (23-6, 14-4), who won their 16th home game, finishing unbeaten for the fifth time.

Shae Kelly had 29 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Gophers (22-8, 11-7), who are the sixth seed in the tournament. Amanda Zahui B., who had 39 points and a Big Ten record 29 rebounds in a 93-80 win over the Hawkeyes 12 days earlier, had 22 points, 21 rebounds and seven blocks.

Dixon and Logic had 12 points at the half as Iowa took a 42-37 lead. The Hawkeyes hit 7 of 11 3s and 9 of 10 free throws in the second half.

New NW Iowa psychiatric facility for children opens in May

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A new facility offering psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment to children and teens in northwest Iowa is expected to address an important need in the region when it opens this spring. The Sioux City Journal reports the new Jackson Recovery Centers Child and Adolescent Recovery Hospital is expected to open in May.

Right now the closest child psychiatric crisis centers are either about 60 miles away in Cherokee, Iowa, or about 90 miles away in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The $10.5 million project has been under construction in Sioux City since August. It will have 72 inpatient beds and a 12-bed psychiatric stabilization unit.

GERALD J. GROSS, 80, of Irwin, died Fri., Feb. 27th, in Omaha. A Mass of Christian Burial service for GERALD GROSS will be held 11-a.m. Wed., March 4th, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, in Defiance. Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

A Wake service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 7-p.m. on Tuesday.
