Tivoli Fest, Elk Horn (Iowa’s) annual festival celebrating their Danish heritage, is set to take place May 23rd and 24th. Officials say this year, the two day event’s theme is “Where Memories and Movies are Made.” The 35th annual fest is packed with an assortment of activities sure to please visitors of all ages.
As in years past, Tivoli Fest has offered a wide variety of musical entertainment. Music can be heard all over town. Activities actually begin on Friday, May 22nd, when Brad Myers’ Band, will be performing at the Elk Horn Fire Station from 7 – to 10 p.m. Enjoy the opening of the Iowa Beer Tent. On Saturday, May 23rd, Ron Johnson, Accordionist of Scandinavian Melodies, will be performing at Noon at the Elk Horn Town Hall, 1:30 p.m. at the Elk Horn Fire Station and again at 5:00 p.m. at the Windmill Entertainment Stage.
Denmark’s Jensen & Bugge, along with Dwight “Red” Lamb, will perform from 1-to 2 p.m. and again from 6-to 7 p.m. at the Windmill Entertainment Stage. They will also perform at the Elk Horn Fire Station from 8-to 9 p.m. Dwight will be playing traditional Danish tunes on his vintage G accordion, while Danish musicians, Mette Jensen and Kristian Bugge, play and sing along. Conclude your evening listening to “Usual Suspects”, starring Elk Horn native, Darla Hansen, at the Elk Horn Fire Station from 9 p.m. – to Midnight.
On Sunday, May 24th, Ron Johnson will perform at the Elk Horn Fire Station at 10 a.m. And, beginning at 2 p.m., patriotic songs will be performed by local talent at the Veteran’s Memorial Park on Main Street Elk Horn during the Tribute to Ralph Hansen/Walk of Honor.
