Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Andrew Miller loaded the bases with a hit batter, followed with a tying four-pitch walk, then threw a wild pitch that put Cincinnati ahead in a three-run seventh inning as the Reds kept up their slim playoff hopes with a 10-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis, second in the NL Central, dropped three games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs with two weeks left. The fourth-place Reds are 20-26 and also trail Milwaukee. The Cardinals led 5-3 before Nick Castellanos’ RBI single in the sixth off Alex Reyes.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Brad Keller pitched his first major league shutout, tossing a five-hitter as the Kansas City Royals won their sixth in a row by beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-0. Keller was in total command, allowing only three hits until the ninth inning. Making his 55th career start in the big leagues, he struck two, walked one and threw 111 pitches. It was his second complete game in the majors. Salvador Pérez and Hunter Dozier homered to help Kansas City win its second consecutive series after losing its previous eight. Pittsburgh lost its fourth game in a row.

UNDATED (AP) — Big 12 teams posted the top three passing totals of the weekend in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech all went over 400 yards passing. OU’s Spencer Rattler hit on 14 of 17 for 290 yards and four touchdowns in just two quarters against FCS Missouri State. OU finished with 484 yards. Texas’ Sam Ehlinger was 25 of 33 for 426 yards and five touchdowns against UTEP. Texas ended up 29 of 41 for a school-record 481 yards and seven TDs. Texas Tech’s Alan Bowman was 38 of 52 for 430 yards with two TDs and an interception against FCS Houston Baptist.

UNDATED (AP) — The Big Ten presidents were presented a comprehensive plan to conduct a fall football season, but a final decision is still to come. A person with direct knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that the full Council of Presidents and Chancellors heard from all the subcommittees of the conference’s Return to Competition Task Force over two and half hours. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Big Ten was not making its return to competition plans public. The person said the meeting broke up without the presidents and chancellors voting and with no set plans for them to reconvene.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A man who fired shots at employees outside Arrowhead Stadium was arrested Saturday after a daylong standoff. Kansas City police spokesman Capt. David Jackson said the man arrived at the Truman Sports Complex around 10:30 a.m. Saturday and fired several shots at employees but did not hit anyone. The man was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. Jackson said the man didn’t appear to have any connection to the Kansas City Chiefs or Royals. During the standoff, some stadium employees took shelter inside the complex. The Kansas City Royals’ game against the Pittsburgh Pirates was delayed about half an hour because of the standoff.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Louisiana-Lafayette got kick and punt returns for touchdowns to help secure one of its biggest wins in program history, 31-14 win over No. 23 Iowa State. On a day when both offenses seemed overmatched, the Ragin’ Cajuns were ignited by Chris Smith’s 95-yard kickoff return in the second quarter and Eric Garror’s 83-yard punt return in the third. Levi Lewis also threw a 78-yard scoring pass to Peter LeBlanc to give Louisiana-Lafayette a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter. Louisiana-Lafayette beat a Top 25 opponent on the road for the first time, having gone 0-26 against ranked foes away fro home.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Dakota Hudson allowed just one hit in six innings and the St. Louis Cardinals backed him with four home runs to beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-1. Harrison Bader hit a three-run homer and Matt Carpenter and Paul Goldschmidt added solo drives in the sixth as the Cardinals broke it open. Brad Miller also homered for St. Louis. Hudson won his third consecutive decision and second this season over Cincinnati. He didn’t allow a hit through his first five innings. Hudson struck out four and walked four.

UNDATED (AP) — The Big Ten university presidents will meet today (Sunday) to hear a presentation about playing a football season _ maybe as soon as late October _ though a vote to restart the postponed season is not guaranteed. A person with direct knowledge of the situation said the Big Ten’s Return to Competition Task Force held a meeting, with the medical subcommittee making a presentation to a subgroup of presidents and chancellors. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the Big Ten was not planning to make any announcements about its efforts to return to play, said it was a “positive meeting” that led to the scheduling of a presentation to the full group of presidents and chancellors.

(AP) — Adalberto Mondesi homered and stole a base for the third consecutive game, Kyle Zimmer got his first career win after a winding path to the major leagues and the Kansas City Royals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4. Whit Merrifield added a solo homer and the Royals won their fifth straight game. It was the third consecutive loss for Pittsburgh. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — LeBron James scored 29 points and Kyle Kuzma (KOOZ’-muh) scored 17 as the Los Angeles Lakers ripped Houston, 119-96 to advance to the NBA’s Western Conference finals for the first time in a decade. Los Angeles responded by scoring the next 15 points to take control for good.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Brad Keselowski has advanced in NASCAR’s Cup playoffs by winning in Richmond. Keselowski led a race-high 192 of the 400 laps and gave Team Penske a sweep of the day, hours after Will Power won for the IndyCar arm of the organization.
