A woman was arrested early this (Sunday) morning in Montgomery County, following a traffic stop for speeding. Sheriff’s officials say deputies stopped a car driven by 44-year old Tracey Marie Kimmet, of Essex, at around 2:50-a.m. about two-miles west of Elliott, on Highway 48 near Ironwood Road.
Kimmet was subsequently charged with OWI/1st offense. The woman was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $1,000 bond.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources report a man from Guthrie Center was injured while turkey hunting Saturday morning in rural Guthrie County. Authorities say 51-year old Richard Groom suffered a wound to his upper torso after being hit by shot fired from another hunter he was hunting with approximately 10 miles west of Panora. The incident happened at around 7:30 a.m., Saturday.
Groom was airlifted to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The incident is still under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
UNDATED (AP) — The Golden State Warriors opened their NBA playoff schedule by carrying a 25-point lead into the fourth quarter before holding off New Orleans 106-99. Stephen (STEH’-fehn) Curry scored 34 points and Klay Thompson chipped in 21 to help the Warriors withstand Anthony Davis’ game-high 35 points for the Pelicans. Also in the Western Conference playoffs, James Harden delivered 24 points and Corey Brewer scored 13 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter of Houston’s 118-108 victory against Dallas.
UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards have won their opening games in the NBA’s Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Jimmy Butler poured in 25 points and Derrick Rose added 23 and seven assists as the Bulls downed Milwaukee 103-91. Paul Pierce scored five of his 20 points in overtime to lead the Wizards’ 93-86 win at Toronto.

Tarasenko scored twice in a 4:43 span of the first period and completed his hat trick with an empty-netter. And Jakob Silfverberg scored with just 21 seconds remaining to give Anaheim a 2-1 victory and a two-games-to-none lead over Winnipeg.
CHICAGO (AP) — Kris Bryant collected his first two major league hits and reached base five times in the Chicago Cubs’ 7-6, 11-inning win over San Diego. Bryant’s first hit was an RBI single, and he also had an infield single in the 11th before Starlin Castro won it with a single. Bryant was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his big league debut on Friday.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A jury has cleared the city of Davenport, its mayor and its public works director in a negligence case that was brought after residents complained of sewer backups. A lawsuit accused the officials of failing to address Davenport’s main sewer system despite years of complaints. Homeowners had sought compensation for damage from major rainfalls in April and May of 2013.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A pledge by local businesses to hire military veterans has Sioux City set to become the state’s second city to qualify as a Home Base Iowa Community. Governor Terry Branstad will bestow the honor Wednesday. Sioux City reached the program’s goal to have at least 10 percent of local employers pledge to hire at least one veteran before December 31st of 2018.
FOREST CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Forest City Police Department could move into its repaired police station by late June. The station was damaged in an October 2011 fire. Construction crews and city employees have been working on the building since February.
DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — People who commit a misdemeanor in Dubuque might not have to worry about bail money soon. Dubuque City Manager Mike Van Milligen and Assistant City Attorney Maureen Quann will ask the City Council on Monday to eliminate jail time as a penalty for misdemeanor city crimes. Quann says a recent Iowa Supreme Court opinion prompted the proposed change.
A Glenwood woman who went shopping in Council Bluffs with her mother received some devastating news Saturday afternoon. The Omaha World-Herald reports Katie Davis received a call from Glenwood Mayor Kimberly Clark, who is also a Sergeant with the Mills County Sheriff’s Office. Clark told Davis a giant oak tree had fallen and crushed Davis’ home in the 500 block of North Vine Street. The house was a total loss.
The tree snapped just above the trunk, revealing a hollow section, and fell across the living room in the front of the house and on nearby vehicles. The tree came down as a thunderstorm moved through the area Saturday. The family was hoping their cat “Nala” made it out of the house, which will have to be torn down and rebuilt from scratch. The home was too dangerous to enter Saturday to look for the family pet.

LOUIS (AP) – Carlos Martinez pitched six strong innings and Jason Heyward hit his first home run for St. Louis, leading the Cardinals over the Cincinnati Reds 5-2 Saturday for their fourth straight win. Matt Carpenter drove in a pair of runs as the NL Central champion Cardinals kept winning after a 3-3 start.
Zack Cozart homered for the Reds, who have lost three in a row and six of seven. Cincinnati speedster Billy Hamilton left in the eighth inning after beating out an infield single. Martinez (1-0) gave up one run on three hits, striking out four and walking two.
Trevor Rosenthal picked up his fourth save in as many opportunities. He struck out Joey Votto with two on to end the game. Homer Bailey (0-1) surrendered five runs and nine hits over 5 2-3 innings. He made his first start after beginning the season on the disabled list while recovering from surgery on a torn flexor tendon.
Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday left Saturday’s game against Cincinnati in the bottom of the first inning because of tightness in his back. Holliday doubled and scored before leaving. He has hit safely in all 10 games for St. Louis this season, and his double was his first extra-base hit. He is batting .363. Jon Jay moved from center to left field and Peter Bourjos entered the game.
