Creston man reports ATV thefts

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says a rural Creston man reported last week the theft of three ATV’s owned by him, and a fourth ATV owned by another person, stored on a property located off of Lark Avenue. The four wheeled ATV’s stolen include: a green 2010 Polaris Sportsman 550; a blue 1997 Polaris Express; a green 2005 Polaris Ranger XP-700, and a green 2010 Polaris Sportsman 550-CC. The off-road machines disappeared from the property sometime last week. The loss was estimated at $27,500.

Single vehicle accident Tue. night in Page County

No injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident Tuesday night, in Page County. The Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at around 10:50-p.m., in the 2600 block of 290th, or about 2 miles east of College Springs.  The driver, 27-year old Kennith Alan Cline, of Coin, was in a 2004 GMC Envoy, owned by Lula Lewis, also of Coin, and traveling west on 290th, when he lost control of the vehicle. The SUV entered the south ditch and rolled over once, coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Cline was cited for Failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

Villisca woman injured in mud road, single vehicle accident

The Page County Sheriff’s Office says a woman who was a passenger in a pickup driven by an Atlantic man, was injured during an accident on a dirt road Tuesday afternoon. Deputies responded to the accident about 9-miles northwest of Clarinda on 130th Street between N and O Avenues, at around 4:40-p.m-p.m.

During the investigation, it was found that 26-year old Jonathan Owen Nelson, of Atlantic, was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad cab pickup westbound on 130th Street. The vehicle is owned by Marna Kay Liddell of Villisca. The portion of 130th Street that the pickup was traveling on was a Level B Minimum maintenance (dirt) road.

The vehicle came upon a portion of the Level B Minimum maintenance road that was deeply rutted from recent rain and vehicle traffic. When the pickup went through the deeply rutted portion, the vehicle bounced violently, throwing the passenger, 20-year old Marna Liddell, of Villisca, into the windshield, causing her to be injured.

Liddell was transported to the Clarinda Regional Health Center by private vehicle to be treated for her injuries.

3 arrested in Creston, Tuesday

Two Creston residents and a Bluegrass, Iowa man were arrested on separate charges, Tuesday. According to Creston Police, 34-year old Bobbie Sue Flynn was arrested Tuesday morning at the Union County Law Enforcement Center, on a Union County warrant for Failure to Appear in court on an original charge of Trespassing. She was later related on $300 bond.

And, 19-year old Jacob Davis was arrested at the Union County LEC on a warrant charging him with Unauthorized use of a Credit card (Under $1,000). Davis was later released on $2,000 bond.

Officials said also, 37-year old Norman Olson, of Bluegrass, was arrested on a charge of OWI/1st offense. He was also cited for Failure to provide proof of insurance and leaving the scene of an accident. The man was taken into custody after the car he was driving struck a legally parked pickup truck in the 200 block of N. Pine Street, in Creston.

Olsen left the scene but a witness to the accident reported it to police, who located Olsen’s vehicle as it was traveling west on Montgomery Street. Damage from the collision amounted to at least $1,800. Olsen was being held in the Union County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Bluffs man treated for accidental gunshot wound

Police in Council Bluffs say a man was cleaning his pistol Tuesday night when he accidentally shot himself in his lower extremity. The incident happened at around 10-p.m. at 1540 N. Broadway. Officials say 28-year old Christian Burgin told them he thought the gun was unloaded when he pulled the trigger as he was cleaning the weapon

Burgin was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

Atlantic Co-Ed State Golf Teams Enjoy Success

The State Co-Ed Golf Championships were held on Tuesday, June 9th and Atlantic had two pairs fare well in the Class 1A meet at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone.  The duo of Sophomore Brooke Newell and Freshman Ben Renaud placed 5th with a round of 81.  Atlantic’s other team of Junior Erin Olsen and Sophomore Jake Olsen shot an 83 which tied for the 10th best score but they finished 12th on tiebreakers.

Also the Kuemper Catholic team of Juniors Courtney Snyder and Mitchell Ludwig finished in 2nd place with a round of 78.  The Knights other team of Freshmen McKenna Ludwig and Nate Mertz finished 16th with a round of 85.

The Panorama team of Sophomore Adrienne Powell and Junior Reid Cobb shot a 95.

In the Class 2A Meet at Briggs Woods Golf Course in Webster City the Carroll duo of Seniors Jill Pettitt and Zach Riddle placed 7th with a round of 80.
