November 29th, 2024 by Asa Lucas

The 2024 Atlantic Trojans basketball team have been taking positive steps throughout this past offseason. After ending their 2023 campaign in the first round of the Class 3A regional against ADM and finishing with a record of 7-16. The Trojans graduated six seniors this past season including three starters, so Head Coach Dalton Franken has been focusing on defense with his younger group and is pleased to see the progress they’ve been making in practice and scrimmages.

One of those players who seems to get better as time goes on is Junior forward Gavin McLaren. McLaren was the team’s leading rebounder and second highest scorer on the team.  He’s not the only athlete that has seemed to stick out to coach Franken, Hudson McLaren is another Trojan who stuck out from diligent work in practice and offensive potential. Hudson McLaren had 16 steals and 51 assists.

Another point of emphasis for this Trojan team is using their depth at guard and size on the perimeter as an advantage.

The Trojans first varsity game of the season will be on December 3rd against the North Polk Comets. A team who went 11-13 a year ago and advanced to the second round of their bracket. Coach Franken is hoping to see a strong defensive effort the entire night.

With this younger group Coach Franken wanted Trojan basketball fans to know that they can expect a squad that continues to give their all and a bring a high level of energy to every game.

KJANTV will have the coverage for Tuesday’s game beginning with the pregame show at 7:20 p.m.
