(UPDATE) Chase in Des Moines chase Monday morning ends w/2 Officers wounded & the suspect dead

DES MOINES, Iowa — Police in Des Moines report two Des Moines Police Department patrol officers are hospitalized after being shot this (Monday) morning (Sept. 16). The suspect is deceased.
Authorities say at approximately 1:40 a.m., Des Moines Police Department patrol officers attempted a traffic stop near the 2500 block of Easton Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit initiated. The suspect vehicle turned north on E. 24th Street from Easton Boulevard, left the roadway and crashed. As officers attempted to take the suspect, an adult male, into custody, he fired upon them with a handgun. Multiple officers returned fire, and the suspect was shot.
Two Des Moines Police Department patrol officers were struck by gunfire. Both officers remain hospitalized and are expected to survive. Des Moines Police Department detectives are investigating this shooting incident. The Iowa Department of Public Safety – Division of Criminal Investigation has been requested to join the investigation.
Easton Boulevard is temporarily closed, E. 23rd Street to E. 25th Street.
