Atlantic rolls over Clarke

Sports

August 30th, 2024 by Chris Parks

The Atlantic Trojan football team dominated the Clarke Indians in a 62-7 victory at the Trojan Bowl on Friday night. The Trojans hit paydirt on every offensive possession of the night and moved to 2-0 on the young season.

It started with a 65-yard touchdown run by sophomore Ethan McNeal five minutes into the game. Grant Petty then picked off an Indians pass on their first possession. The Trojans cashed that turnover in with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Hayes to Jarrett Hansen. Hayes hooked up with Hansen for a 50-yard score on the next possession and the Trojans never looked back. It was a 48-0 lead for Atlantic by halftime and a running clock melted away the second half fairly quickly.

Tyson O’Brien, Gavin McLaren, Corbin Ritter, Joaquin Wailes, Collin Rudy, and Zander Killion all had touchdowns for Atlantic. The ground game flourished again after a monster week one, but the Trojans worked in more of the passing attack and even had a defensive touchdown. The big first half lead also allowed a wealth of players to get in the game and gain experience.

Atlantic will take their 2-0 mark on the road to face the 0-1 Glenwood Rams next Friday night. Asa Lucas will have the call on KJAN and KJANTV.
