BENIN CITY, Nigeria – Freshman Precious Irivi claimed the silver medal in the triple jump at the Senior Championships in Nigeria on Tuesday. Irivi registered a 15.35-meter mark in the event.

As a U20 competitor, Irivi was crowned the U20 national champion and qualified for the World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, at the end of August. The freshman jumper currently holds Iowa’s seventh-best triple jump mark (15.57 meters).

Irivi will join freshman distance runner Luke Knepp, who punched his ticket to the World Junior Championships earlier this month in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
