The Atlantic Trojan’s basketball team fought at home on senior night but fell short against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs 57-51. The first quarter saw an electric performance from Nolan Waters hitting three triples to try and keep his team in the mix as they were down 15-11 after the first. In the second quarter Atlantic put on 12-2 run at the start of the second to take the lead for the first time during the night at 23-20. Denison-Schleswig then had multiple timely baskets to calmly answer Atlantic and take the lead into half time up 28-25.

In the third quarter both team’s offensive productions slowed down with the slew of foul’s being called. The Trojans got within six points of the Denison-Schleswig lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Monarchs would put together an 8-0 run to seize control of the game and ultimately win 57-51.

Atlantic Head Coach Dalton Franken said Nolan Water’s offensive production was impressive, but the rest of the team had too many breakdowns on the offensive end.

The Monarchs were led by 24 points from Lance Arkfeld and increase to 8-7 on the season. Luke Wiebers added 18 points on the night.

Atlantic was led by 20 points from Nolan Waters and Colton Rasmussen. The Trojans fall to 5-13 on the season and will now prep for a trip to Harlan on Tuesday to square off against the Cyclones. It is expected to be a physical matchup.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
