Trojan Girls lose momentum in Clarinda

The Atlantic Girls basketball team struggled to hold together any momentum in the second half in a road loss at Clarinda 49-36 on Friday night.  The Trojans started off the first quarter strong with a 10-0 run and looked calm. In the second quarter Atlantic struggled to find consistent scoring and take care of the basketball but still found themselves up by two at halftime leading 21-19. But the second half would see Clarinda grab just enough of a run to pull out of reach for Atlantic.  The Cardinals outscored the Trojans 15-7 in the fourth quarter and that was enough to push them to the win as Atlantic didn’t catch many breaks all night.

Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason explained that a lack of aggression hurt Atlantic’s chances of winning Friday night.

Addy Wagoner and Maddie Cole led Clarinda with 16 each points each in the victory and the Cardinals picked up their eighth win of the season overall.

Atlantic was led by Paytn Harter with 19 points and Maddie Richter with 6 as their two-game winning streak comes to an end.  The Trojans travel to face a competitive Creston team on Monday. It’s another matchup that Coach Vargason is making sure his team isn’t taking lightly.

Tipoff for that game is set at 6 p.m.
