Red Oak Fire responds to possible building explosion & collapse

(Red Oak, Iowa) – Firefighters in Red Oak were dispatched at around 3-p.m. Tuesday, to 203 W Oak St (New COOP), for a reported explosion with possible building collapse. Crews quickly arrived on the scene and reported light smoke coming from one building and two buildings with damage, but no building collapse had occurred. All employees were accounted for and no injuries reported.

Authorities say a fire was located in the north pit building containing the grain belt system for the new grain storage building, on the west side of their complex. The fire was quickly extinguished. Grain processing areas checked and no other fire was found. Two outbuildings, the grain leg system, and a grain belt were damaged. Fireground operations terminated at 4:36 p.m.

Assisting Red Oak Fire during the incident, were personnel from the Stanton Fire Department, the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, and Red Oak Police. Montgomery County Communications facilitated with coordinating those agencies. Red Fire said in a social media post, “New COOP staff were of tremendous assistance and we thank them for that!!!”
