AMES, Iowa – Iowa State raced out to a 14-0 lead then held off second ranked Houston late for a 57-53 win in Ames. ISU improves to 12-3 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12.

That’s Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger. The Cyclones handed the Cougars their first loss after a 14-0 start.

Defense was the key. The Cyclones limited Houston to 38 percent shooting and forced 16 turnovers.

Otzelberger says home court was a big advantage. Attendance was listed at better than 14 thousand despite the winter storm.
