AMES, Iowa – Iowa State forced 20 turnovers and held Oklahoma State to just 31.9 percent shooting from the field on its way to a 66-42 win inside Hilton Coliseum on Saturday evening. The game was delayed more than two hours due to a blizzard in Iowa as well as travel delays and plane issues which caused the Cowboys to not arrive in Ames until the middle of Saturday afternoon.

ISU (13-3, 2-1 Big 12) cranked up the heat defensively after a slow start on the offensive end. OSU (8-8, 0-3) registered the second-lowest field goal percentage in conference action by a Big 12 team this season.

Four Cyclones reached double figures in the game as they improved to 23-1 under head coach T.J. Otzelberger when four or more players score in double figures. Tamin Lipsey went 7-for-8 at the line, setting a new career-high for free throws made, and finished with a team-high 17 points to lead the Cyclones.

Iowa State converted the 20 Cowboy turnovers into 20 points.

How It Happened

Oklahoma State jumped out to a 15-10 lead just over seven minutes into action as the Cyclones started slow on the offensive end. Keshon Gilbert got the Cyclones going with a layup as ISU opened up a 10-0 run, taking its first lead of the game with 8:31 remaining in the opening stanza on a Lipsey layup.

ISU closed the half on a 27-11 run, holding OSU scoreless for more than six minutes during the stretch. The Cowboys stayed in the game via the long ball, connecting on six first-half three-pointers as five different players hit a three.

ISU forced 12 turnovers and scored 12 points off of them. Lipsey had 11 points and Hasan Ward tallied 10 points, including six on three dunks.

The Cyclones used a 7-0 run early in the second half to break open the game, extending their lead to 49-30 with 12:50 left as Milan Momcilovic banged home his second three of the half.

ISU never looked back the rest of the way as it improved to 2-1 in conference play.
