DECORAH, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s wrestling program won eight titles Saturday at the Luther Open. 23 Hawkeyes combined for 15 pins, 37 technical falls wins and a 96-18 record. 

 Seven Iowa wrestlers won championships in the Elite Division, including Drake Ayala (125), Jace Rhodes (133), Jared Franek (157), Michael Caliendo (165), Gabe Arnold (174), Brennan Swafford (184) and Zach Glazier (197). 

Iowa was 88-17 in the Elite Division with six of those losses against fellow Hawkeyes. Ayala defeated Joey Cruz, 19-3, in the 125-pound finals and Caliendo was a 20-4 winner against Drake Rhodes in the 165-pound finals. 

Jace Rhodes outscored his opponents 51-14 en route to the 133-pound title. Franek tallied up four technical falls and a major decision as he cruised to the 157-pound title. Arnold saw his first action as a Hawkeye and went 5-0 to win the 174-pound bracket as a true freshman. Brennan Swafford and Zach Glazier each tallied two pins as they won the 184-pound and 197-pound titles respectively.  

Isaiah Fenton won the 157-pound Silver/Freshman Division, rolling up two technical falls, a pin and a decision in the finals. Koye Grebel finished second in the Silver Division at 149 LBS.

Iowa returns to action Sunday, Nov. 19 hosting Oregon State in its home opener. The Hawkeyes and Beavers meet at Noon (CT) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
