Cedar Rapids man faces Vehicular Homicide charge after a pedestrian is struck & killed, Sunday

(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) – A man from Cedar Rapids faces a charge of Vehicular Homicide and three other charges, after a pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday afternoon, in Cedar Rapids. Authorities say 45-year-old Kyle Kubite was taken into custody following the incident that took place at around 4:45-p.m. in the 1400 block of Memorial Drive southeast. Police say Kubite’s vehicle struck two pedestrians, an adult female and an adult male. Both were transported to a local hospital. The female died at the hospital from her injuries. Her name was not immediately released. The male pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Kubite was not hurt.
Investigators determined Kyle Kubite was driving under the influence. He was being held in the Linn County Correctional Center on charges that include:
1. Homicide by Vehicle- OWI
2. OWI 1st
3. Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident
4. Leaving the scene of a fatality accident
No other information is available and the investigation continues.
