CAM Cougars Girls Basketball Team Start the Season Strong

Sports

November 21st, 2023 by Asa Lucas

The CAM Cougars basketball team grabbed an early lead over AHSTW on Tuesday night and answered every Viking run for a 60-33 home win. A 25 point showing for Eva Steffensen was too much for AHSTW to overcome.

CAM jumped out to a 13-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, then the Cougars saw their lead double by halftime leading 33-15. That lead grew to 20 by the end of the third.

The Cougars got some balanced scoring with 12 from Kiera Nichols, 8 from Abby Meredith Rich, 8 from Courtney Follman, and 7 from Ruthie Rich. The balanced scoring for the Cougars left Head Coach Joe Wollum pleased with how well they played.

Coach Wollum noted that a large part of their success tonight came from the effort and hustle of Eva Steffensen and her 25 points with 3-4 shooting from the free throw line.

CAM starts the year 1-0 with the win and will face Ankeny Christian next Monday night. Even with a bright win, Coach Wollum knows CAM still has a few things to tweak, to become an ever better squad.

AHSTW was led by 11 points from Macey Goshorn. The Vikings fall to 0-2 with the loss and will take on Riverside on Tuesday.
