AMES, Iowa – Iowa State fell in its final match of the 2023 season on Monday evening to the sixth-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders, 1-0. The loss marks the end of the campaign for the Cyclones, who recorded its most conference wins since 2016.

The Cyclones (6-11-1, 3-6 Big 12) managed just one shot on goal for the evening, as Texas Tech (14-0-4, 8-0-2 Big 12) won the Big 12 regular season title with the victory, holding off the BYU Cougars.

TTU started the match as the aggressor, hunting shots early and forcing Avery Gillahan into some tough saves and positions. There was one sequence in particular Iowa State faced three consecutive shots, blocking or saving them all to keep the Red Raiders off the board.

The relentless Texas Tech pressure eventually broke through in the 40th minute, as Ashleigh Williams converted off a double feed from both Alex Kerr and Elise Anderson. The Red Raiders would take the 1-0 lead into the break, holding a 16-5 shot advantage as Gillahan had seven saves through 45.

The Red Raiders played not to concede in the second stanza, holding the Cyclone scoring efforts in check, keeping ISU out of the goal and holding on for a 1-0 win.

Abigail Miller and Avery Horner were the lone Cyclones to record more than one shot on the day. Miller, along with Sophia Thomas, Hanna Reid, Olivia Edwards and Gillahan all played the entire 90 minutes of action.

Eight Cyclones participated in their final match at the Cyclone Sports Complex, as seniors Mira Emma, Maddie Brant, Alex Campana, Kristin Boos, Salomé Prat, Edwards, Miller and Reid are set to move on from the program.

Mira Emma played in her 83rd career match on the night, making her the program record-holder for most matches played in in a career.
