IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s soccer defeated Rutgers, 1-0, at the Iowa Soccer Complex on Sunday, good for the ninth Hawkeye clean sheet this season. Iowa improves to 8-1-3 overall and 2-1-2 in Big Ten Conference play.

Seventh-year player Josie Durr notched her third goal this season in the 24th minute. Senior Rielee Fetty and junior Kenzie Roling each earned assists on the sequence, pushing the ball upfield to give Durr a one-on-one look with the Rutgers goalkeeper in transition.

Iowa applied pressure all afternoon, posting a 15-6 advantage in shots, including five Hawkeye in shots on goal. The Hawkeyes also took five corner kicks for the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Macy Enneking has anchored Iowa to a 0.25 goals against average this season. Iowa has allowed just three goals in 2023, which already was tops among power conference schools and tied for third nationally heading into Sunday’s game.

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH DAVE DIIANNI

“Our defense really minimized a lot that [goalkeeper Macy Enneking] has to do. If we can continue to do that, then the rest of the group will come around. They have begun to do that, with five goals in two games this week.

Our foundation has to be defending as a whole, top to bottom, because it actually gives us the best opportunity to score. We can turn people over with our front line and our midfield. It is not about sitting low. It is actually about being proactive and creating opportunities to attack in transition.

Winning on Sundays in the Big Ten is so important. I am very proud of our effort today.”
