Exira-EHK had no problem scoring on a battered East Mills team winning 56-6 on Friday night. In the first half alone, the Spartans had nearly 400 yards of offense. The rushing attack for Extra-EHK was unleashed by multiple players.

The Spartans got out to a quick start in the first quarter by forcing East Mills to punt on their first possession. The Spartans offense then came out in a shogun formation and quickly handed the ball off to Alex Hansen. He would run along the entire sideline for 72 yards and a score. He had 3 carries, 2 touchdowns, and 164 yards rushing. The Wolverines offense back came out and were forced to punt after they were unable to convert. Cash Emgarten was deep to return and sprinted past the Wolverines for a long punt return touchdown. The points would continue to pour in during the first half. Thanks to impressive stat lines from players like Jameson Kilworth rushing 8 times for one score and 183 yards. Not to mention Kilworth’s passing in the pocket going 2-2 for 81 yards and two touchdown throws.  They were up 44-0 at halftime.

The offensive execution and effort put in the first two quarters was liked by Exira-EHK Head Coach Drew Buckholdt.

In the second half East Mills composed themselves well enough to force a fumble and go down the field to score with a 34 yard sprint from Jack Gordon. The score turned into 44-6. Exira-EHK responded with a touchdown of their own with a 24 yard touchdown run from Bryce Brabham. That enforced the lead back to 50-6. But, the Spartans found themselves playing sloppily through the second half with 3 turnovers and a total of 5 penalties for 59 yards.

The second half performance was one that Coach Buckholdt was not pleased with.

Through the ups and downs of the second half, Exira-EHK’s playoff future looks secure. Still, Coach Buckholdt had his focus on the seniors and gratitude for each and every one of them.

Exira-EHK improves to (4-3, 4-1) and will head on the road to face Griswold next Friday October 13th. East Mills falls to (2-5, 1-5) and will Woodbine at home next Friday.
