Hawkeye Freshman Battling at the Highlands Invitational

CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team traveled to Chicago to compete in the Highlands Invitational, the second tournament of their fall season. The Highlands Invitational is making its inaugural debut with 15 teams competing in the field.

Despite rainy conditions and an early tee time, freshman Noah Kent came ready to play. After the opening round of play, Kent found himself in a tie for second place after shooting 4-under par. Kent currently sits in a tie for 12th place after 36 holes.

Freshman, Max Tjoa finds himself in a tie for 23rd place after carding 3-under par through two rounds of play. Tjoa finished the first round at even par. In the second round of play, Tjoa had five birdies to get to 3-under par to climb up the leaderboard.

Mac McClear is currently in a tie for 52nd place with a 2-over par. McClear ended his second round by birdieing three of the last seven holes.

Virginia remains seven strokes ahead of the field after two rounds shooting 27-under par.

Iowa as a team sits in 10th place at 3-over par. Play was suspended due to darkness. The unfinished teams are Furman, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Wake Forest B Team, and Yale.

These teams will be finishing their rounds, starting at 7:10 a.m. (CT).

  • Noah Kent’s par 5 average of 4.13 is tied for first in the field after two rounds.
  • Iowa’s 37 birdies matched the sixth most on Monday; Noah Kent lead the team with 10 birdies, followed by Max Tjoa with 8 birdies and Mac McClear with 7 birdies.
