(Modale, Iowa) – Missouri Valley Fire Department officials reported on social media, Monday morning, that a car-versus-train accident happened at around 9:37-p.m., Sunday. No injuries were reported. The crash happened when the car struck a coal train on the north side of the railroad tracks on Harrison County road K-45.
Missouri Valley FD received mutual aid from the Modale Volunteer Fire Department, who took the lead, because officials say “It was difficult for us to get to that side due to crossings blocked, but we were able to assist in fighting the fire and providing medical services.” The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.

While no on was hurt, the MVFD says the incident “could have been a lot worse. Even with technology, training and guarding available, accidents like these still occur. Please keep an eye out for trains.”
They said it took the train about one-half mile to stop after the collision. MVFD reminds you to “Always look for trains at crossings.”
