Purdue held off a late Iowa rally and defeated Iowa 77-70 in men’s hoops on Friday night in West Lafayette. Trevion Williams had 13 points and 18 rebounds, including two important late boards to lead Purdue. Jaden Ivey added 19 for the Boilermakers who will be the likely No. 1 ranked team in the country next week.

The Hawkeyes were led by 15 points from Patrick McCaffery, 14 from Tony Perkins, and 12 from Kris Murray. Iowa played without top scorer and rebounder Keegan Murray who was injured in Monday’s win at Virginia.

Purdue built a big lead early in the game but let a 63-44 margin dwindle to 70-68 with 3:08 left in the game. The Boilermakers then outscored Iowa 7-2 to seal the win down the stretch. Iowa forced 17 turnovers using a full court press to get back in the game.

The Hawkeyes suffer their first loss and are now 7-1. Next up for Iowa is a Monday night home game against Illinois. Our coverage of that one on KJAN will start at 5:00 p.m.
