Iowa COVID-19 update for 3/6/21: 3 additional deaths, 554 additional cases

The Iowa Department of Public Heath at 10-a.m., Saturday, reported an additional 554 positive COVID-19 test results returned from the lab, for a pandemic total of 366,609. There were also three additional deaths reported, for a total of 5,552, including one additional death in each of Adair, Harrison and Shelby Counties. Long-Term Care facility deaths account for 2,191 of the State’s total number of deaths.

The number of Long-Term Care facility COVID-19 Outbreaks are down to 10. Hospitalization data show 170 Iowans are hospitalized with COVID, compared to 176 in the previous report. The number of COVID patients in an ICU is down slightly, to 38. There were 33 patients admitted to hospitals over the 24-hour reporting period (compared to 35 previously), and 10 patients remain on a ventilator.

Hospitals in Western & Southwest Iowa report: 17 people are hospitalized for COVID (2 more than on Friday); eight are in an ICU, three patients with COVID symptoms were admitted over the past 24-hours, and one person remained on a ventilator. More than 239,265 Iowans are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Health department data shows 822,458 vaccine doses have been administered in Iowa.

Iowa’s 14-day positivity rate is 4.0%, while the seven-day rate is 3.8%.
