The Atlantic School District, project contributors, and the facilities steering committee celebrated the re-opening of the Trojan Bowl on Friday Night. An on field dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting was held prior to the Homecoming football game against Red Oak.

Renovations at the Trojan Bowl were part of a $9.5 million bond issue that voters passed in April of 2019. The bond issue included renovation at the Trojan Bowl, a complete overall of the baseball and softball fields, a new track and synthetic field at the high school, new tennis courts at the high school, and a new entry drive and parking lot renovation at Washington Elementary.

The specific renovations at the Trojan Bowl included new concessions and restrooms, ticket booths, storage, four-lane track, visitor parking, new bleachers that are ADA compliant, site paving, lighting, sound, and a new scoreboard and play clocks. It was decided after the passage of the bond that a synthetic turf would also be laid at the Trojan Bowl with a fundraising effort to try to cover that extra cost.

A number of businesses and community members donated to the field turf, and Jim Tyler and the Tyler family led that charge with a $100,000 matching grant donated from Atlantic Bottling Company. Tyler cut the ceremonial ribbon to mark the occasion. Rolling Hills Bank and Trust was another major donor recognized for their $50,000 contribution.
