IA COVID-19 update for Sunday, 9/6/20: 5 more deaths, 750 new cases

The Iowa Department of Public Health today (Sunday, 10-a.m.) reports five more deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 statewide since 10-a.m. Saturday, for a total of 1,165, and 750 additional, positive cases of COVID-19, for a total of 69,756. Persons with preexisting medical conditions made up for 813 of the deaths. Officials say 627 deaths have taken place at a long-term care facility since the beginning of the outbreak. There have been a total of 49,651 persons who have recovered from the virus and 6,046 additional negative test results received since Saturday, for a total of 596,649 since testing began. A total of 666,905 individuals have been tested for COVID-19. The combined 14-day positivity rate is 10.9%.

Here in the KJAN listening area: Adair County has one new positive case of COVID-19; Harrison County had two additional cases; Guthrie County has 2 new cases; Pottawattamie County cases increased by nine, to 1,717.

There are 309 Iowans hospitalized with coronavirus, a decline of 6 since Saturday. IDPH reported 91 patients are in intensive care, a decline of 3 since Saturday. There were 13 people admitted to a hospital, for a total of 52. And, 38 is the number of patients who are on a ventilator. In western/southwest Iowa: 11 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, two more than on Saturday; 8 are in an ICU, and person was admitted, and three patients are on ventilators.

Long-Term Care outbreaks remain at 29. IDPH reported 802 positive cases and 365 recoveries within those facilities.

  • Shelby County: 223 cases; (211); 1 death.
