Harlan girls pour in twelve 3’s in rout of Atlantic

The Harlan girls basketball team ripped up the nets from downtown and scorched past Atlantic 73-51 on Monday night. The Cyclones poured in twelve 3’s on the night, taking advantage of Atlantic’s zone defense.

The Cyclones took control of the game at the end of the first quarter with an 8-0 run to end the period and push a four point lead out to 12. Harlan would extend the lead to 22 by halftime.

Macie Leinen led the way with 17 points on the night. Jocelyn Cheek added 15 and Brecken Van Baale dropped in 14. Van Baale hit three from downtown in the second quarter and was fouled on a three right before the end of the half. She converted all three free throws to finish with 12 in the opening half.

The Cyclones improved to 12-9 on the season. They now await the Class 4A pairings for postseason play starting on the 19th.

Atlantic was led by 18 points from McKenzie waters and 16 from Haley Rasmussen. The Trojans end the regular season at 8-13. The Trojans host Clarinda on Saturday for their opening Class 3A playoff game. We’ll have that game on KJAN with pregame at 7:15 p.m. and tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
