A semi tractor-trailer driver from Oskaloosa died, and two people were injured Saturday, when a car turned in front of the semi in Polk County. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2018 Nissan Sentra driven by 50-year old Lisa Kay Pearson-West, of Des Moines, was traveling east on Highway 163 in Pleasant Hill at around 9:15-a.m., when she turned in front of a 2018 Peterbilt Semi driven by 63-year old Kevin John Deronde, of Oskaloosa, as he was traveling west on Highway 163, approaching the intersection with NE 70th Street.

The semi struck the car on its passenger side. Following the collision, both vehicles left the road and went into the northwest ditch, where the semi rolled onto its driver’s side. Kevin Deronde died at the scene. His passenger, 59-year old Linda Jean Deronde, of Oskaloosa, and Lisa Pearson-West, were transported to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, with Pearson-West suffering serious injuries. She was flown by Life Flight to the hospital. Linda Deronde suffered what were described as minor injuries and transported by ambulance.

All occupants of the vehicles were wearing their seat belts. The accident remains under investigation.
