The Atlantic City Council will meet 5:30-p.m. Wednesday, in a regular session at City Hall. The Council is set to receive a presentation/report on last month’s RAGBRAI event from Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bailey Smith. Police and City Officials agree the event, which drew thousands of bicyclists, support crews and more to the town July 21st and 22nd, went on without too many issues and was a success.

The Council will then act on an Order to close specific streets on Saturday, August 10th, from 5-a.m. to 6-p.m., for AtlanticFest. The Streets include:

  • Chestnut (both lanes) from 2nd to 7th Street.
  • 6th Street (both lanes) from Walnut to Poplar.
  • 5th Street from Chestnut to 1/2 block east of the alley west of the Post Office.
  • 5th Street from Chestnut to Poplar.
  • 4th Street from Chestnut to Poplar.
  • 3rd Street from Walnut to Poplar.
  • Walnut Street itself will remain open**

In other business, Mayor Dave Jones is expected to make an announcement with regard to establishing a Complete Count Committee for the 2020 Census. City Administrator John Lund says the Census Bureau wants local governments to establish the CCC, which will be comprised of community leaders who will advocate for participation, in order to ensure Atlantic is accurately represented.

And, the Council will act on approving a Resolution “Amending the salary of the Street Department Superintendent for FY 2020.” Kirk Knudsen was recently promoted to Street Dept. Superintendent. Accordingly, the City’s Personnel and Finance Committee is recommending the Council adjust Knudsen’s compensation for the remainder of the fiscal year, from the current $68,105 to $70,000.
