Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jared Goff threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Gerald Everett for the go-ahead score with 1:49 to play, and the Los Angeles Rams outlasted the Kansas City Chiefs for a 54-51 victory in a high-octane NFL offensive showdown that somehow surpassed the hype. Patrick Mahomes threw six touchdown passes for the Chiefs, but he also threw two interceptions in the final 1:18 as the Rams won the highest-scoring Monday night game ever played and the first NFL game with two 50-point performances.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for the most yards in the NFL this season and had his second six-touchdown game. But it’s the five turnovers he committed that ended up leading the Chiefs to their second loss of the season. Mahomes threw three interceptions and had two fumbles in Monday night’s 54-51 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at the LA Memorial Coliseum.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — It has been more than a decade since anybody paid much attention to the Kansas football program this time of year. Les Miles has changed all that after his hiring Sunday. The national championship-winning coach has energized the Jayhawks’ fan base. His task now will be to build a program worthy of the enthusiasm. Kansas has just six wins the past three seasons.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Scott Frost’s first Nebraska team is in position to finish with one more win than the Mike Riley-led Cornhuskers had a year ago. That would be no small accomplishment for the Huskers. They were the last Power-Five conference team to win this season following a program-worst 0-6 start. To close on a 5-1 run, they must win Friday at Iowa. The Hawkeyes have outscored Nebraska 104-44 while winning the last three meetings.

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) — Ty-Shon Alexander hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points and Damien Jefferson scored 16 on 7-of-10 shooting to help Creighton beat Boise State 94-82 in the Cayman Islands Classic. The Bluejays will play Georgia State in the semifinals.
