LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Malik Newman scored a career-high 27 points, Svi Mykhailiuk added 23 and No. 12 Kansas staved off an upset bid by Iowa State, pulling away in the closing minutes for an 83-78 victory. The game was tied 73-all with 3 1/3 minutes left before the Jayhawks turned up the defense. Lindell Wigginton led the Cyclones with 27 points.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marcus Foster scored 21 of his 23 points in the first half, Martin Krampelj had 14 points and 14 rebounds for his third straight double-double and No. 25 Creighton beat Butler 85-74. The Bluejays won for the ninth time in 10 games and improved to 11-0 at home.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — James Palmer Jr. had 18 points and Nebraska opened up a double-digit lead early in the second half then held off three Wisconsin surges to take a 63-59 win. Nebraska (12-6, 3-2 Big Ten) led by as many as 13 early in the half, then saw the lead shrink to five as Wisconsin (9-9, 2-3) made five of six field goals.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have promoted running backs coach Eric Bieniemy to offensive coordinator, filling the job that Matt Nagy left open when he was hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Chiefs coach Andy Reid announced the promotion in a statement.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Nebraska linebacker Barrett Ruud is returning to the Cornhuskers to coach inside linebackers. Ruud was a three-time All-Big 12 selection during his three seasons with Nebraska from 2001-04, becoming the school’s all-time leading tackler. He played eight seasons in the NFL for four teams.
