The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association held their 50th annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, January 20th at the Marriott Hotel banquet room in Cedar Rapids. Greenfield resident Steve Shantz was honored as the Brent Prange State Umpire of the Year. He was also the Southwest District Umpire of the Year, while Dan Pomeroy of Coon Rapids was named the Central District Umpire of the Year. Pomeroy also recieved a 30-year service award at the banquet.

Denison’s Don Lyons and Lewis Central’s Lee Toole received 35-year service award. Kevin White of the World Herald Newspaper was honored as the West District media award winner.

Treynor received a “True Pitch” District Diamond Award for the West District.

Area coaches that were honored as district coaches of the year included: Randy Snyder, Kuemper Catholic (1A Southwest District); Steve Daeges, Harlan (2A Southwest District); Lee Toole, Lewis Central (3A West District).
