Congressman Young to stop by local firearms dealer, Saturday

News

November 3rd, 2017 by Ric Hanson

Iowa Republican Congressman David Young will make a stop in Massena, Saturday. Actually, just a little bit east of Massena, when he talks with the owners and staff at McCunn Specialty Firearms. Co-Owner Kevin McCunn told KJAN News Young wants to explore more about the legal sale of bump stocks. Kevin’s son and MSF Co-Owner Brice McCunn was the person who suggested Young should stop by.

The issue about bump stocks came about following the concert shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, where, according to law enforcement, the shooter used a bump stock to rapidly open fire on his victims below. Adding a bump stock to a rifle increases the fire rate for a rifle – the number of rounds that can be fired per minute – to a fire rate similar to a fully automatic rifle.

Kevin says this is likely the first time Congressman Young has been in Massena, so they’re looking forward to his visit.

(He said Young was supposed to have stopped by last year at about this same time, but that was when a Urbandale Police officer Justin Martin and Des Moines Police Sgt. Tony Beminio were shot to death during the early morning hours of Nov. 2nd, 2016.)

It’s not clear if Young will fire a weapon equipped with a bump stock, but McCunn Specialty Firearms has an indoor shooting range for target practice. Iowa’s 3rd District Congressman is expected to stop by the store at around 1:30-p.m. The public is invited to stop by as well, and check out the facility, as well as speak with David Young, as time allows.

The store is located at 74980 Richland Rd, or just east of Massena, on Highway 92.
