Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Randal Grichuk and Jedd Gyorko each homered and drove in three runs, leading the St. Louis Cardinals over the Cincinnati Reds 8-2 yesterday. It was a makeup for an April 29 game that was postponed because of severe weather. Grichuk hit his second homer in two games since being recalled from Triple-A.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Brady Singer struck out a career-high 12 in seven innings, Jonathan India doubled in two runs, and Florida beat LSU 4-3 in Game 1 of the College World Series finals last night. The Gators need a win today or tomorrow to earn their first national championship.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Kyle Schwarber says he’s not surprised the Chicago Cubs demoted him, saying that “the numbers spoke for themselves.” Schwarber’s October return following a knee injury helped fuel Chicago’s first World Series title in 108 years, but he was sent down to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday after hitting .171 in 64 games this season.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Blues didn’t extend a qualifying offer to Nail Yakupov, making the 2012 No. 1 pick an unrestricted free agent. Yakupov had just nine points in 40 games last season after four years with the Edmonton Oilers. The Russian winger has never had more than 33 points in a season.
